I want to move data from one site to another without bringing it down locally. Can you recommend an ftp client for OS X that will allow that?

Ya, that was far from helpful.

I don't think there is a way to move between two remote machines. However, you could use the Terminal to SSH into computer A, start an FTP session to computer B, and accomplish the goal of moving between the sites.

Obviously this requires the ability to get SSH access on computer A, and familiarity with doing FTP via the command line. It's not rocket science, but it's not drag and drop simple either.

I thought it was strange too. I can't use the terminal despite that helpful (and less than helpful 1st response) as I don't have telnet to my hosts...

dang.

ok, I'll keep looking.

I once tried this program awhile ago. I believe it is in Fink so it shouldn't to hard to set up:

Sorry I can't be of more help, I'm sure someone else can come in and work out all the garbage since I'm not a terminal junkie myself, but I believe this should be able to do it for you if you get it up and running!

Good luck!

I believe that fetch allows this, although I don't know if it is faking (ie moving it to your computer and then to the other computer) or doing it properly (no data going to your computer).

Actually you can do this in any FTP client if you know the commands... Someone once showed me how to do it, but I have completely forgotten Perhaps Google?

You could run wget on one of the machines to "mirror" the content of the other machine. If that doesn't suit you, there are numerous "mirroring" tools that should fit the bill.

There are quite a few more as well.

I think the best shot at real FXP support is from CuteFTP, which supports it on the PC side, and was just recently ported to Mac. Hopefully they will add this feature to the Mac client.

A hint was just added to macosxhints.com site about doing this. Link

It appears Fetch might be able to do it if you choose "Direct server-server transfers" in the Misc. section of Fetch's Preferences.

If this does work there is still other comments on tips of how to do it through the terminal and such.

this can be done since ... a long time ago .. using the proxy command on the CLI ftp, read man ftp in the terminal for a more thorough explanation.
