The airport extreme is super expensive, every week i see the bestbuy ad with a ton of other 802.11 wireless transmitters for a lot cheaper. i am only going to be about 30 feet away tops, will the cheaper hub fit my needs?

I use a Linksys for my 17" powerbook. I am on a network with 2 desktop pcs and another pc laptop and it works great. Saving a hundred bucks is nice however it would be cool to send print jobs from anywhere in the house. but for simple surfin the net save some cash// works for me.

I went with Asante FR1004AL... print service plus wired routing and firewall plus wireless... works with Macs and AppleTalk... and with the current manufacturer rebate, its cheap. Hasn't arrived yet, but others have had good experience with it.

The other 802.11 hubs are probably using B and not G

It can be either. 802.11b hubs can be found for as little as $60 and will work fine with your powerbook

The $40-80 options are B (11Mbps).
The $95-150 options are G (54Mbps).

If you are just using it to access the Internet, B is all you need.
If you also want to transfer files and such between other computers
in your wireless LAN, then you should spend the bit extra and get
a G router. But no need to go all the way to AEBS unless you want
the USB print server also... in which case, the AEBS starts to be
somewhat economical (though never cheap).
