In Iraq yesterday, 10 Iraqi policemen were killed by American troops while chasing a car through a American checkpoint.

It was obviously a mistake, but things like this should not happen, as it is the second friendly fire incident in two days in the same town in which Iraqi police men have been shot by US troops. The US needs the Iraqi police badly. Communication between the two would be an admirable thing.

Both incidents happened in Fallujah, which has been radicalised since the beginning of the occupation, when US troops shot and killed 12 demonstrators in a crowd.

I assume that the US troops are tired, nervous and jumpy in an area where they are constantly under attack, but this situation MUST be improved if there is to be any chance of Iraqis looking after their own security.
