OK... a few questions.

1) Which version of IntelliPoint are you using?
2) Do you have IntelliPoint set to 'System Mouse Tracking' or 'IntelliPoint pointer speed'?
3) Do you use fast user switching? If so, are you sure that the mouse pointer speed stays OK between users? If not, can you try doing so just to check?

Has anybody else noticed that TexShop no longer works? I get this:
2003-10-13 12:48:28.921 TeXShop[807] *** -[NSPlaceholderMutableString initWithString:]: nil string (or other) argument

When I start the program.

I highly doubt they used Bombich's code, since CCC was only an AppleScript Studio app. For Disk Utility, I think they would want to use a lower-level language than AppleScript.

Also, CCC uses shell scripts pretty extensively, and relies on many command-line tools which are only available in the BSD Subsystem. Again, I don't think Apple would require the BSD Subsystem just to use Disk Utility. They would probably just use low-level file manager calls to do the job.

An app that simply copies all the files on one drive to another drive is not really that hard of a thing to do, people.

Did you guys check your date and time settings? As I said before, the MX 2004 apps will for sure launch, when you are back from your Adobe CS safari and set back the year to 2003.

Does anyone have Panther installed AND has LOGITECH Control center running? I am worried that my cordless MX keyboard will be unusable under Panther and who knows how long it will be before they produce an update.

Also - COPYPASTE - does anyone have this working under Panther?

Sure would appreciate answers!

i havent read the previous posts, so im sory if these are repeats...

Im having trouble getting Matlab working in panther (though this is my first time installing it and it is kind of tricky to install).

USB Overdrive is a bit inconsistent and kills my volume and eject key functionality.

Though not software, my 52X burner that worked with jag as soon as i plugged it in doesnt even get recognized in panther (even in toast 6)

Menu Meters doesnt work either. It doesnt start on launch (though if you enable it each time it works fine...kinda negates the purpose)

I installed UT2K3, and it doesnt launch (i installed it with the updated installer too).

Too bad about Liteswitch X, because it seems to work fine in 7B68. For the person who asked, yes Panther has an app switcher like Liteswitch X, but it is but a pale-shadow of it.

Liteswitch X lets you hide, 'hide others', and force quit from the app switcher. More over, if you quit in liteswitch, it gives you feedback about which app you quit, and doesn't actually quit it until you let go, so you don't quit the wrong app.

The Dock's app Switcher has done all that since 10.2 and in 10.3 you merely get a bigger view to see it in. Hide, Quit, Show, etc work using their kerboayd shortcuts as long as you didn't let go of the Command button.

OK, maybe this is a stupid question, but what about the dev tools from Jaguar; will they work with Panther?

There are useful things that require them to be installed. But since I qualify for the $20 Panther update, I'll probably not get a dev tools CD. So, what can I do?

- continue to use the dev tools that came on CD together with Jaguar?

- download the Panther dev tools from an Apple website? Yuk. Will probably take hours...

- pay the full $129 for the entire Panther CD set just to get the (actually free) dev tools? Don't like that idea too.

So, can I use Jaguar dev tools with Panther?

Nope, you need the brand new Developer Tools for Panther.

OK. Thanks.

So, if I want to avoid paying $129 just for the dev tools can I download them from an Apple website at least? Does anybody have an appropriate URL for that?

Intellipoint has worked fine for me in 7B85, so I'll reply

1) whatever version M$ has for download currently
2) Intellipoint pointer speed
3) it's ok for me, but why do you care how it reacts when your switching between users. You can't use the mouse then anyway

You can download them from ADC for free whenever the updates become available (note, you can join ADC for free but, obviously, you don't get the paid member benefits).

Working fine here, on both machines (iMac DV 400 and 12" Powerbook Rev.A).

Repair permissions perhaps?

Photoshop is unable to save EPS files with a clipping path in 7B85. They appear without a preview in layout apps, and crash the app almost every time. (InDesign 2.0.2, FH MXa
OK I tried it, and I strangely had no preview/crashing issues with a PS EPS with clipping paths in InDesign.

And guys. My Studio MX 2004 works just dandy with 7B85. I installed it after I installed Panther though. Perhaps thats the issue?

Another thing that annoys me: GeekTool technically works fine, HOWEVER: When I use Expos to actually be able to see the desktop, the GeekTool console is treated like any other window and disappears into a corner.

Rather pointless, especially since the GeekTool window doesn't actually appear in the Expos overview.

There really needs to be a preference to be able to exclude certain applications from Expos.

GeekTool and Stickies would be on the list immediately.

Not true.

I have personally seen Probject Builder/IB from the December 2002 dev tools (w/ gcc 3.3 upgrade) install and compile a 10.2 project on 7B85 without issue.

  • Mail bundles such as httpmail and the one to send spam to SpamCop no longer function (probably the things I most want updated right now).
  • SAFT, a full screen safari plug-in that used something called SIMBL, causes Safari to crash before it shows, took a while for me to figure that one out. So basically anything that screws with safari probably won't work.
  • As has been said, Pacifist won't work.
  • Netbarrier doesn't work. I'm talking about the version before it became bloatware. The daemon simply doesn't start.
  • All Unsanity haxies don't work. Probably because APE itself doesn't work. Good riddence I suppose.

As an aside, Classicspy is now not needed as Panther's Classic preferences can enable a feature that works the same, a menubar item that shows Classic's status.

Here's another:
  • MyTV/x drivers, The newest releases at least. A couple bounces and no loading.

No problems with Ghost recon, at least with the newest updates, 1.0.2 and 1.0.3.

Good riddence is right. While I'm all for what Unsanity is trying to do, APE completely nuked my computer every time I tried to install it. Either it wouldn't boot or my mac would start freezing randomly. Removing APE always solved the problem.

No way in hell I'm going to risk disturbing Panther by installing some Unsanity crap that kills everything. No way at all.

Good list thus far.

What about iView Media Pro 2.0 and Nikon View 6.0?

These are key apps for me and even though I have the new cat on order, I will SOOO wait if there are issues.

Hmm, that is strange. I had the same problem in 3.0.2, and had to install the plug-in due to MSN and yahoo changing their protocols or something; but with 3.0.3, I think they're rolled up into the release, I could be wrong though.

If anyone with the new APE beta could please email me at [email protected] or else post a link I would really appreciate it. I'm going nuts without Windowshade.

Thanks!

By the way - Flash MX seems to launch fine for me - haven't tried editing anything with it though. Am on Pismo 400.

Well, with a lot of searching I answered my own question. If anyone wants the latest APE beta, Windowshade beta, or Fruitmenu beta - which all run on Panther - please email me or look around on the internet. Just so everyone knows - this is officially ok - people are just asked not to publicy post a link in a general news forum by the developer.

This is NOT the same plugin as above. 3.0.3 did not work on any machine on our network in Panther.
