My brand new Powerbook G4 1.25ghz is running HOT! Sometimes in the normal course of typing the keys heat up so hot that it almost burns my fingers (warms them up minimally). The underside, well, forget about touching it was barehands! The internal fan turns on regularly. When the fan is off it's totally silent. When it's on, it's loud!

This can't be normal operation.

in that case I would let it check- I have a 1.25 as well and it doesn't run hot at all. Nor on the top or the bottom side. The fan doesn't come on during normal use either.

Mine gets hot at the back where the fan is but the fan doesn't come on either. Everywhere else is warm.

Mine gets hot just at the rear bottom around where the hinge is. And it only does that when I am doing something disk intensive.

If your machine is getting hot unexpectedly, check out the CPU usage using 'top' or the Activity Monitor in Panther-- there may be a process that you're not aware of using a lot of CPU.

One example is with Safari-- if I leave it open to a page that has an animated GIF, even with the window not visible, it hogs the CPU animating the GIF, and very soon my machine will be very hot and the fan will be running almost continuously. Closing that window fixes the problem. (Unfortunately there's no way to keep animated GIFs from cycling forever in Safari.)

Is halo out for mac? I know it was originally for Mac and PC before M$ bought its rights for the Xbox.

If so where do you get it?
