I installed Lil Snitch and it says this file wants access every time I start up. Any clues as to what it does? Is it supplied by Apple as part of Panther? Thanks.

This is where it starts in System Log:

Nov 11 13:38:05 localhost configd[89]: executing /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Kicker.bundle/Contents/Resources/set-hostname

Please ignore this post. I finally found the answer on the Appple Developer site:

System Configuration Framework

Configuration Agents

To manage configuration information, the system configuration framework provides a system-level daemon, configd, and an API through which applications can communicate with it. To keep the state data current, configd provides a notification mechanism based on a set of configuration agents. configd hosts these agents in the form of bundles (or plug-ins): they run as part of the configd process within its memory space. Each agent is responsible for a well-defined aspect of configuration management. It manages one or more configuration sources, monitoring low-level kernel events and, through a set of policy modules, interacts with the dynamic store as necessary. Each has a small set of well-defined key/value pairs that represent events that it monitors and events that it can publish. Configuration agents include:

Preferences Monitor
Kernel Event Monitor
IP Configuration Agent
PPP Controller Agent
