I really wanted to try confabulator. I saw all kinds of great fabbies out there. The thing that turned me off was that It seemed really hard to make my own. hrmf... all I wanted was...

5 minutes

We do not know if it is a midnight release. In fact, I doubt it is. But hell, if they're ready, this would be when they'd drop it.

Well, I guess it was kinda our fault seeing as how we just assumed it would be at midnight.

Same.. and wish Smeger some speed on finishing the documentation.

I realize now I haven't gotten more than two paragraphs done in the last 6 hours.

I'm sure unsanity's going to be getting a lot more traffic starting now and for the rest of the 18th. There's always the next 6-8 hours that it could be uploaded if not rightaway.

Even so... if everyone that "matters" is in Mountain Standard Time, then it's not yet midnight. But the simpsons are on.

You guys are worse than Apple... Apple doesn't even say anything new is going to be for download until the keynote, (everyone knows when the keynote is too) then it's up for download as soon as the keynote is done. Everyone will go nuts before it's out.

Anybody want to speculate?

A user friendly theme changer? (what we have now w/ better interface)

A full blown theme editor?

or

(the thing I've been waiting for)

A Kaleidoscope class API that allows you control over the shape and size of all GUI elements?

I'm hoping it's that, and judging by the nature of what unsanity does, that would seem logical (in addition to what swiz said about Monolith's "holy grail of themeing" being a death kiss).

I wouldn't be disappointed though with the other two options.

I think it is going to be a haxie that changes the font colors in the system so that I can have all white in Dark Glass and BBX can have a white font in his theme. Might be something else too. But so far that is my guess.

I was thinking about that. It would have to AT LEAST do that if BBX Omega is involved.

That was always the drawback to dark themes.

Alrighty guys, we didn't mean you to get that much excited and frustrated! =) As for release time, it'll probably be about 8 to 10 hours from now (it'll be still 11-18-03 in USA, right? =). So if you have to, get a bit of sleep. And we'll be ready by the time you wake up, hopefully. =)

Well I'm going to bed, I guess I'll be checking at about 7am next. I hope it's as good as we've hyped it to be. lol All the clues do seem to point to something huge though as themeing goes.

slava I do hope it's worth being excited about though. Expect a registration right-away if it is as good as the poster makes it look.

Well, while the upcoming thing is great as-is, do not expect it to walk your dog or make your toasts in the morning. Not for the first release, anyway. =)

We usually release a reasonably feature-packed 1.0 then continue improving it agressively over time. This way, we see what people want more, and can focus on features that our users want, not the ones we think would be cool. But again, I am excited to be a part of this project as it is somewhat the result of a few years of mucking up with the system and making random APEs.

All in all, it'll be out fairly soon. THEN you'll talk and we'll listen. =)

At least if it's from Unsanity with all these theme developers as backup, you can be sure it has something to do with a theme control in your preference panel!

more (leaked?) info at resex

http://www.resexcellence.com/

"Drum roll for Shape Shifter... We'll know today for sure so keep an eye out for (possible simultaneous) announcements from Swizcore Studios, Unsanity, Max Rudberg and William Bart! I received this image (which has been posted elsewhere) late Sunday night. From what I've heard this app may be much like Kaleidoscope was for Classic Mac OS. Expecations are it will use a it's [sic] own format for Theme files, have greater stability and allow each user on any one system to have a different Theme installed.

I think we'll also see the long awaited BBX Omega Theme released at the same time as Shape Shifter and with any luck some other new Themes too."

I'm thinking back to BBX mentioning something like "It won't be a problem anymore" when somebody asked about dark themes having readable titlebars...
