My oldish iBook 500 has developed a problem that causes the screen to flicker lighter and darker when it is moved. It is just the back light that flickers. Not the picture.

It seem to be connected with the hinge moving. I reckon it is the video/power link through the hinge that is very worn or damaged.

I want to replace my iBook with something more powerful but a serious lack of money stops this happening.

what does everybody think is broken? Will it cost a lot to fix?
David.

Same happened to my iBook 500. The problem is most likely the "reed switch" that carries power to the backlight. It is a $29 dollar part, but requires sevreal hours of labor. You can either do it yourself and risk your sanity and your computer, or you can pay somebody $300-400 to fix it.

I found a repair shop that would buy my iBook for the parts ($250) and bought an iBook G4.

No regrets.
Don

That is what I thought. Just asking in case. It is not actually worth getting it fixed for that cost.

That is about 250 quid.
David.
