My brother, an apple genius at the southdale store, told me lots of powerbooks are reporting that there 12" powerbooks are actually running at 533, instead of 867, to check for ure, run this command in the terminal

Code:
sysctl hw.cpufrequency
Mine reports at 533 until I can reset the power manager (Hold down SHIFT+CTRL+OPTION+POWER for 5 seconds, then start up again)

Lemme know your results.

We've been over this in other threads. I believe the consensus was that the reported speed was incorrect and that the machines were really running at 867MHz.

Mine says 533 but no way does it feel like it's running at that speed. It's waaaay quicker than my 400 G4 Power Mac.

said 533 before power manager reset, now says 867. Odd.

But in a little while, it will say 533 again. Don't know why.

If it runs fast I wouldn't be worried about it.

ya...this has been covered elsewhere. mine was running 533, would reset the PMU and would display 867. later, it would be back at 533.

i ran xbench on it in both states and had insignificant differences in CPU performance (5 pts in the CPU battery of scores). so, my opinion is its a reporting error.
if it aint' broke, break it.

Same with AltiVec Fractal Carbon. The difference is noticeable (and it is clearly reported in the window title bar) when you change the processor speed.

Yes, this is indeed the case. So everyone can stop fretting.
