Does this version of Safari still run into the issue of window resizing when opening or closing tabs?

And by "resizing do you mean "getting super small and then closing"? Man that bugs me!

I hope Omni manages to get Safari 1.2's new webcore into OmniWeb 5 asap...because, so far, Safari's speed and compatibility is really great.

Have your fonts within Safari's preferences changed since the update?

It looks like the fix for Safari's tenacious caching (which was introduced between the final beta and 1.0) has been rolled into 1.2.

I'll restart my computer for that! Huzzah!

As an aside, the forum fonts are spec'd way too small in the underlying code.

The layout's riddled with <font face="geneva, verdana, arial, helvetica" size="1"> tags. It's definitely in need of some serious slapping with the CSS stick.

I thought that they shared the same rendering engine libraries. So.. if you update Safari (ie. WebCore) then doesn't OmniWeb automatically inherit those improvements?

I found an undocumented "feature" of Safari 1.2 (actually more of a bug/limitation fix):

Safari no longer has to re-download an image when you drag and drop from a page.

This will make my life a lot easier. Don't know why it took them so long though, since this is the way every other browser functions.

The tabbing to UI elements is also very welcome.

Bummer. It appears English has a serious limitation! In German I would have said: "Sie benutzen die gleiche 'Engine', aber nicht die selbe." But this is impossible to say in English.

I have to say that I am a little disappointed that most of my online bank page still doesn't show up still. Nothing but nothing apart from Explorer works. Dam Italian banks!!

I'd say "they use the same engine, but each has a separate instance of it".

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

For those who don't like the smaller font of the MacNN forums now...

Goto:

Safari/Preferences/Advanced/"Never use font sizes smaller than..."

And change the setting to either "10" or "11"...

Better? Now, this will change other sites; however, you can play around with settings and see what fits you best...

Not just Safari, the fonts are also smaller in OW5 (well, I don't know if they looked like this in OW before since I don't use it).

Does Safari feel much faster to anyone else after this update?

As others have already pointed out, it seems like it is more of an issue with the code in the forums, it seems.

apparently no one is having difficulties installing safari 1.2? Mine says it can't be installed on this computer -- which is running 10.3.2. Very odd...

i thought you were supposed to be able to tab to drop-down menus, checkboxes, and radio buttons in this version of safari? i can only get it to tab to links, which is much less useful than being able to tab to form elements.

info? help?

You need to have active the access to all keys in the keyboard pane of the system preferences. Also if you set to tab to links, then you have to option-tab to UI elements, and viceversa.

One cool thing I noticed, when you're downloading a file, the icon on the desktop updates in real time with a progress bar just like IE does. Not too shabby.

Err, but while i'm here.. My fonts mysteriously shrunk too. Minimum font size trick seems to have done the job though.

Other than that, V1.2 is so far, so good

this sucks...
i use safari without the address bar;
when i open a new tab, i type the address, hit return and...i'm there.

but 1.2 does not seem to do this...

anyone else do this? (& find it now missing??)
