Watched a video (Windows Sh*ttia Player :/) of some GI's handling some looters in Iraq. At first I laughed because I thought it had to be some kind of satire with everything going on. Then I read the frontline transcript and found it is in there.

I have a hard time believing events actually happened as the video showed it. Maybe the troops wanted to make an example of looters, but it really seems like the video footage or narrator was not in context or exaggerated. Why do something like that in front of a camera crew and show faces? Why pump 2 dozen or so rounds in a car they were going to flatten anyway? If people from the camera crew could talk to the looters, why did one GI claim they couldn't understand them, or why didn't they know the purpose of the car?

Think the video shows an event as it actually happened (real), think nothing about it was right and it's a hoax (fake), or think some parts were intentionally edited and some narration changed to try and make people feel for the looters (exaggerated)?

It would be nieve to assume that no editing has occurred. The narrators want to get a point across so they highlilght the points that support their premise, and remove the ones that don't.

In saying that the basic fact, as I could see it, was that the US soldiers wanted to "punish" the looters, and hence, one dead car (a taxi??).

Is this wrong, or is it right?

I voted for true, as I thought it was more true than exaggerated.

He used his taxi to loot (steal) and got it crushed.

Reckon he won't be doing any more looting (thievery) with that taxi.

I think that it is just satire by someone that doesn't like Bush!

Looks like the modus operandi of the US. And you wonder why Iraqis are trying to kill US soldiers, but Afghanis aren't doing the same to the ISF.

It's bloody wood, probably to heat their home. Let it go.

It's not the Iraqians that are killing soldiers. It's mostly terrorists from Saudi.

You don't have the whole story. I can think of a ton of situations in which that would be wrong. For example, maybe he's just the driver and the looters hired his car. He migght have had no idea that that lumber was stolen.

I thought it strangely perverse that they crushed the car with the lumber still on it. So the crime sucks, but whomever lost the lumber lost if for good because the US army can't be arsed to take the lumber off the car that they are crushing? I protest.

Buh-bye. Either IBL or IBM for me....

I think it's exaggerated. In this day and age, it's so easy to edit/cut video.

Not everyone. But for those that did, what are you going to do now you know WMD did not exist in Iraq and that Bush lied to all of you?

As for the video, who knows? But if the story is as it goes, why did they (the army) destroy the timber? If it was stolen why not return it to the owners? Seemed like a pretty stupid move. Not that I'm surprised.

Now now lbk come on. Just because we can't find them, or they aren't in Iraq RIGHT NOW, doesn't mean they never existed. Remember the UN tags some weapons in the 90s and Iraq admitted to having them.

BTW, If I see a monster out my window, and go tell my friend, and when he looks it's not there. Does that make me a liar? Of course not. Or if someone tells me their is a monster, and I believe it. And I tell someone else. But there really isn't one. Does that make me a liar? Of course not.

I think people are too quick to judge purely for political zealotry.

BS. Bush was going to war with Iraq from the moment he stepped foot in the White House. He needed an excuse, that was all.

Anyway, wrong forum.

Oh, I am sure him wanting to oust Saddam was on the list indeed.

So it SHOULD have been.

His dad should have done it when he had the chance.

I didn't. When the war started, I bet a few of my friends that all they would find was money and oil, which everyone knew was there. Guess who won the bet.

I nominate Diller for teacher.

Lesson plan: match up the words "insecurity" on the Intarweb. The grade will go towards your final project on sarcasm, and how not to recognize it on web sites.
