Friend of mine e-mailed me some WMA music files... I can't seem to play 'em, since they are Microsoft docs... Any software out thaere that converts WMAs???

You can/should be able to play them using Windows Media Player for Mac. Depending on where your friend got it from have him convert to MP3 or AAC.

why haven�t anyone made a wma/wmv-codec for quicktime/itunes?

Audion can convert WMA files into MP3s. Get it at http://www.panic.com/

Well, I really enjoy Panic's FTP application called Transmit. If Audion is of similar quality, I'll definitely buy it.

Before you buy it, email them and ask/pester them to update Audion to support AAC files and the latest LAME encoder. For some unknown reason, Panic hasn't updated Audion in over a year.

The one thing I like about Audion is the support for skins. There's a lot of them:

That's not good. I greatly prefer using AAC within iTunes rather than MP3; the sound quality is noticeably better.

Do not think that "converting" wma or mp3 to aac will increase quality.

No, but ripping CDs to AAC rather than MP3 format will make a better-sounding copy.

Yes, if you use the same bitrate or go for the same size. With 20% more and mp3 you're way more compatible though.

there is a program that can convert WMA to MP3, only i can't remember which one it is

had a disk wipe since then so not got it anymore, though i think it was hyperion

but not 100% sure

it worked fine anyway, was able to convert the WMAs to MP3 then i was able to burn an audio CD from them
