Alright, I'm having a few problems with my personal web sharing. I replaced the defualt index.html file in the Sites folder with my own. But whenever I go to see if it worked it shows the old one, what the problem?

So you're talking about your user account's site? e.g., http://youripaddress/~youruseraccount/
or... just the main site? e.g., http://youripaddress/
Make sure you're replacing the right file. Your root for the main site is by default located at /Library/WebServer/Documents (that's not under your user folder, that's the main/universal Library folder I'm referring to)
At least mine is.

I'm talking about the main site. I need to have this up soon, before next week because it's for a grade in my Web Design class at school.

Like the last poster said...
go to /Library/WebServer/Documents
that's where the pages are for your main site

I did go there, but I didn't even find an index.html file, so I'm guessing that it's not there.

did you see index.html.de, index.html.cn, and 20-some-odd variations on that theme?

You need to type http://yourIPaddress/~yourusername to get to your newly dropped in index file if you did put it in your Sites folder. Make sure you refresh the browser, or it may look in the cache file.

Then that's the main folder.
Drop in an index.html and point your browser at http://localhost

Go to http://whatsmyip.org/ to get your IP. If you don't have a router or firewall in the way, that address should work.

Would my DSL modem be considered a router?

No. Does your DSL modem plug into your mac? If so, you should be good to go.
Try plugging the IP from what's my IP into your browser.

Yes my DSL modem plugs into my Mac. Now when I plugged my IP to my browser and when I hit enter it takes me to my ADSL Modem Main Page. Maybe you can test it out for me: http://66.32.160.237/

Or just open the System Preferences, Network panel, and choose built in ethernet, and see what IP address you have there.

Nope I don't have dynamic DNS. Its always up with the same IP I don't know why you wouldn't be able to access it?
