i just had to post this. i just got my refurbished 15" 1.25ghz powerbook from apple now. it looks *brand* new, no dead pixels, no scratches, *nothing*.

it is amazing. it is currently installing 10.3 right now. i have had it on my lap for a short while to play around with it and the screen looks *so* much bigger than when i used the 15 at the apple store. i can not get over how amazing the powerbook is.

$1,999 for the $2,599 model is nothing to sneeze at. i can not wait until 10.3 is finished installing so i can use it.

Congrats! Seems the refurbs are more hit than miss on good quality. My 17" refurb came in the same condition as yours.
Enjoy

Hey. Glad to meetcha.

I got a 15" 1.25Ghz a couple of weeks ago, and it worked fine for a while until the screen decided everything looked better purple, and with crazy lines through everything.

The cool thing was that I took it to the local Apple Store, who had it fixed, and shipped back to me inside 48 hours. Impressive.

EdipisReks - Hi, glad to meet you.

I got a refurb 15" 1.25GHZ w/Superdrive. It looked ok at first, then I noticed there was a dent in the case by the superdrive. Also, the feet on the underside of the powerbook were black with dirt. The shift key on the right side of the keyboard didn't work either. I had to send it back to Apple right after I got it. They replaced the keyboard, the top case, the bottom case, and the hard drive (they discovered it was bad during testing). The good news: They upgraded the hard drive to the 5400 RPM for free. They gave me a free powerbook battery (which I sold on ebay for $130+). So, all in all, it didn't end up to bad. The machine works great now. I paid $2099 (it was about 2 weeks before the price dropped). But, I got the 5400 RPM hard drive. And, I got the $130+ for the battery. So, in the end, it was $1970.00 for a 1.25GHZ G4 w/superdrive & 5400 RPM hard drive. Not too bad!

Your refurb shipped with 10.2 on it? That's ridiculous... Apple should load it with the latest version of the OS.

Bought an eMac for the office. As soon as the warranty expires, I am overclocking it. Functions fine, but aesthetically, it had an issue. As in the previous owner grazed a wall with blue paint with the back of the unit. Polished out fine with some rubbing compound.

it's amazing what the jump from 512 to 768mb ram is!
i went to buy a new 512 from macsales.com and the one for the 15" is the same as the 12", so gave the 12" one of the 256 from the 15" so it now has 512 and my 15" has 768.

It says right on the web page "Ships with 10.2.7. 10.3 upgrade CD included," so it's not like they're jerking anybody around. I decided I could handle doing an upgrade to save myself $500.00. However, mine arrived with 10.3 on it and a 10.3 software install/restore DVD. Guess it depends on the particular machine. Go figure.

BTW I freaking love my new Powerbook. It was indestinguishable from brand new, and runs like a champ. Had it about a month, now with nary a problem.

I didn't know that 15" and 12" pn shared the same type of memory. I thought the 15" was pc2700 and the 12" pc2100. Or is there a difference. I just orderded a 12" from apple and ordered a 512 stick from a third party to save some money on ram. I specifically looked for pc2100 ddr so-dimm cuz ithought that was the only type that would work.

pc2700 ram is back-compatible. You can put it in but it will only run at 2100. I have a stick of 2700 in my 12" powerbook right now.
