As many of the regulars know, the forums here can get over loaded. The MacNN forum admins are working on hardware and software upgrades to serve us better ... but they wont be done this week. Here's some hints to help the forum run better.

Replies: Try not to use the forum as a real time chat. Try not to post replies that are little more than one word (eg replying just to say "cool"). Read a bit more than you post

New Topics: Scan the forum before posting a new topic. Chances are there's a topic already going that has the info you want to post or the question you want to ask. Use the existing threads to continue the discussions. Use the search (yea I know, the search here kinda sucks) to find threads already going on a topic before posting a new one.

The Newbie FAQ Is a good place to get some basic information about OS X. We tried to keep it simple.

Use the OS X - Third Party Software for discussion and questions. Including Mail.app and iTunes and iMovie. Yea I know that's Apple software but, you know, it's not part of the OS and you'll find those forums a tad faster than OS X General.

Use the OS X Support for all questions along the lines of "can't get this to work" and "will this device work". Many posts that normally stayed in OS X Gen will get moved to support now that OS X is here for real.

During Peak times you can use the IRC Chat that the admins set up. Also some of us have used the AppleInsider Chat for real time talk.

It's going to be a busy week here what with the world's greatest operating system due out on Saturday. I hope everyone tunes in to the the forum here for the latest news info and discussions. Once things cool down and the hardware upgrades are in place I will chill out on locking repeat threads.

Thanks.

No one will get band.

Each time you see the forums down it's because OS X is hung up. The admins have to "reset" it.

You mean that this UBB runs on OSX server!!! I wouldn't think so, but that's what the last post makes it out to be... that would explain a bit...

Sorry Guy. You have to go rather far here to get band. Spirted debate will never do it Normally I have an "anything goes" policy. But with the load so high and more expected this weekend I'm asking people to slow it down a little to keep things running smoothly.

Sounds like the OS X - Third Party Software forum should be renamed the OS X - Software forum.

Why not run the OSX forums on their own server. You already have www.MacNN.com and OSX.MacNN.com. Just slide the OSX forums over to the OSX domain. (I assume you're running it on another box).

Normally I don't edit users posts but this is not the "users go back and forth thread"

Send each other email, use AIM, IRC but don't do it here.

So just to reiterate. This is not the "users bitch about each other" forum. I'm sorry for allowing it to go on and having to edit your posts. I've been busy with other things. If you want to complain about each other don't do it here.
