Hi,

If I'd leave my PB untouched during say a week (and unplug it from electrical socket). What is safer: Shut down the computer or can I leave it in sleep mode? I read somewhere that you should really try to avoid turning on and off the Mac b/c the OS is built to be constantly on. I mean, won't the PB drain of battery etc if I leave it in sleep mode for a week? How does it work?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

It will drain the battery while sleeping. I know the battery should last several days, but I don't know about a week. I really think a week would be OK, too. I just can't promise.

I'd just leave it plugged in for the week. Unless you're actually leaving the house and like to unplug appliances, etc. Then you'd probably be more comfortable shutting the Powerbook down.

I'd say shut it down, especially if your not going to be around for a week.

Another vote for shut it down. I think you'll only get a few days maximum if you let it sleep w/out being plugged in.

Shut it down. The battery will last for several days in sleep mode, but not that long.

Whoever said that was a quack

The OS is built to be used however you please. Turning off the computer is definately a better idea

The "always on" refers to "on", not sleeping or turned off, so it doesn't really matter.

Just to be different...

It shouldn't matter either way. My PowerBook will last more than a week in sleep mode, although the battery is very nearly drained after a week.

But having said that, there's no real advantage to leaving it sleeping instead of off, except that you'll be able to log in faster again at the end of the week.

Charge the battery. Shut it down. Remove the battery.

The more RAM you have, the more battery it uses up when asleep. So if your Powerbook has 1GB of RAM, it will run out of battery when sleeping a lot quicker than a Powerbook with just 256MB RAM. Something to keep in mind.

The more ram you have, the more energy your machine uses in normal use too

Shut your PB down and, as somebody else mentioned, remove the battery. Letting a Li-ion battery discharge completely is going to shorten its life, or so I've heard.

Not if the additional RAM allows the HD to sleep more often.
