I have a 15" 1GHz Aluminum and all the local stores sell PC2700 SODIMMs but they are all 144-pin chips. Then I check the Apple site and it says they must be 200-pin?? Although, I read reviews of the chips on CircuitCity.com and people claim to be using these 144-pin chips in Apple gear that (according to Apple) requires 200-pin.

I'm confused. Do I really need 200-pin and if so, who the heck sells them besides Apple?

Will this work in my PowerBook?

Crucial have a great little website for finding out information like this:
Try using this link:

Edit: tidying up the link a bit. hopefully.

Yes, 200 pin SODIMM's are required. I assume Best Buy's spec for that memory is mistaken, it's likely 200 pin.

To be safe... go with Crucial, you can't go wrong. Use their configurator on the front page to get the proper memory for your machine. Their 512MB PC2700 SODIMM is $125.99, not too bad in comparison to your other links.

For example, 15" 1.33 GHz PB:

12" PB 1 GHz Combo, 60GB, 512MB, AE
40GB iPod

Thanks for the info guys, but there apparently is such a thing as 144-pin SODIMMs. I don't think the Best Buy or Circuit City chips I linked to are compatible after all.

I think the 144-pin SODIMMS are the SDRAM sticks not the 2700 DDR sticks (which have 200 pins).

I have to second the Crucial memory recommendation. Very reliable RAM - I've been using them for years for both PC and Mac.
