Wats up guys. I'm a recent switcher and to rename like the C drive was as simple as right click rename.

I just yesterday reformated due to an error with 10.3.4 (among other things) that wouldnt allow the computer to shutdown, restart or logout without going thru terminal or some backroad way.

I erased to zero and all that but not the disk is titled Untitled and its really annoying. IS there any steps or anything i can do just to rename it?

Click the disk's name (e.g. on the Desktop) to make it editable (like any other file or folder), then rename it.

FWIW, in the future if you wipe your drive again, you can rename it at the initialisation stage using Disk Utility. Btw, a full wipe may not have been necessary... I'll assume you tried various troubleshooting tips first like resetting PRAM etc, but rather than wiping your drive, it could have been better to do an archive and install which preserves your user folder but re-installs the system (i.e. you don't lose anything, but get a "clean" system at the end of it).

No right click needed... just click on the text and it will highlight.... you can also use disk utility to rename it.

You rename it the same way you rename anything else in the Finder: click the name, wait about half a second for the textbox to appear, and start typing.

C drive, heh heh. Right click, rename. heh-heh. Huh-huh.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

No big thing... better to ask a question here then walk around with "Untitled" as your HD name...

It's kind of funny because Disk Utility's default disk/partition name is different depending on your language setting. I wouldn't think that something that low-level would be localizable, but I guess it is. The Japanese default is real ugly, "名称未決定" so I always make sure to name everything.

I've been doing it since Mac OS 9 or so. Don't try it on Windows, though, you'll start launching applications and documents faster than you can throw the silly PC in the trash.

Having said that, my hard drives are named "Macintosh HD" and "Firewire". Party up in here?

HFS+ stores names in Unicode, so files, folders, and disks can be named pretty much whatever you want (except no colons or forward slashes, since those are the delimiters in paths).

You can also turn on full keyboard access in the Keyboard & Mouse preferences. Then you'll be able to tab to any control.

What he said.

Also, you can hit the "escape" key to cancel any windows like that. Escape is your default cancel key.
