Theres another. I'm pretty sure all of these are faked. The readme.pdf on MR uses graphics from Panther, there is also spelling mistakes. Just, un-apple like.

Where's that one from? The toolbar icons are very rough for views - someone's just drawn on a 1 pixel black line.
The last screenshot in my post shows a feature called 'dashboard' according to Mac rumours.

Ok I'll answer my own question - iOliver's pic if of an app that is supposed to be a Hypercard like version of Applescript studio.
BTW - everyone cried fakes when the first 10.3 pictures appeared, so it will be interesting to see how this pans out. Having said that, a dashboard feature would be treading on Konfabulator's toes.

Typographical errors are common in betas - all the previous developer previews of OSX have had spelling mistakes.

For some reason I think I really want that dashboard thing. We'll see if these are real in a few days. The system preferences are kinda nifty, but isn't there a clear problem when it has to highlight where the pref you are looking for? To me this just goes to show that System Prefs are way too cluttered and hard to manage. I STILL have to spend extra time to find the right icon.

Poor system preferences organization aside, wouldn't it be nice if the same feature were available in the Finder? When you are in icon view, it would highlight files that match the search criteria rather than switching to the standard search view in Panther. Not having actually tried it, this might provide more continuity in the finder views by not switching from an icon view to a list view for searching. Instead it would just highlight the relevant files. Not sure how useful this would be if your window has scroll bars. Just a thought...
I too like the dashboard idea. I've always wanted a feature like that where I could pop up a set of commonly used little utilities at will. Having stickies behave in this fashion would be great.
I'm not getting involved in the the fake vs real debate as it's not as much fun as just pretending these are real.

No, Apple has had lots of spelling mistakes in the pre-releases in the past.

If that konfab type thing is what Apple are going for, they'd be better off lumping them into a central panel, something like Longhorn's dashboard. I'd quite like that idea.
The stretched titlebars in those pics looks good too.

GNAA involvement kinda makes it obvious that this isn't real.
But, hey. If it is, I'll be a good little boy and eat my crow pie Monday.

You would think that Apple would make the System Preferences brushed metal with that toolbar and those back/forward icons.

The advanced firewall preference pane looks authentic to me. These are already present features in ipfw, there just is no GUI for them in Panther.

Why I Hope To Mother**** The Firewall Screenshot Is Fake:
1) Top checkbox appears to block all UDP, which would be the height of silliness.
2) The wording is completely amateur hour (e.g. "blocked sources, blocked destinations, and blocked attempts")
3) The use of two hypens instead of an em dash in the "Stealth Mode" check.

It's fake. Easy way to tell. In the first Sys Preferences he's using a search function and the results are on a transparent drop down menu. In the second where he is searching for DNS the drop down menu isn't transparent anymore and the drop down menu is now a couple of pixels lower. Bad Photoshopping.

You've got a point there. Still, it's a feature of ipfw

I'd think that those are subject to change. It's a pretty early version after all.

Are we really meant to believe Apple has produced a bright orange calculator and a fire engine-red calendar? Next thing we know, Steve's going to start going to keynotes in a wifebeater and torn jeans.

The alleged search feature in the Sys Prefs searches content and keywords, not Prefpane name. One of the examples is "dns" in the search box, with "Network" being the only highlighted prefpane.

I'm really surprised that macrumors would post something like this, and on the front page originally as well.
I mean, if ANYTHING should have made it obvious that this was a fake you would have thought that receiving it from a prominent troll group would have been.
For reference, here's their previous 'press release'

I don't know if I believe if those are real or not. Who would use a search box in the System Preferences. Does that really seem like a demand from people? Also, why would Apple adopt Konfabulator? Konfabulator is doing good... it doesn't need to be ruined by Apple. Also, wouldn't you think there would be more Pref Panes than that in the System Prefs... so those screenshots tell me that all year Apple has been working on a System Pref Search box and a Konfabulator clone?
I'm not sure if I believe all of that.
Also, Apple usually makes small GUI "enhancements" that people enjoy every year. I don't see any changes in the GUI.
If those aren't fake... I'll be kinda disappointed.

None of these screenshots look Spectacular. I mean, we already have Konfabulator (and for a while now too) so that was a waste of a feature. Next, WHOO HOO! I've always wanted a search feature in System Prefs... NOT!
I have no idea what that thing is with the icons on the side... but, it takes up too much screen real estate.
Guess what guys... we can just wait until Tomorrow right?

Of course these aren't real. That would imply that every single capable designer at Apple must be dead, otherwise there's no way the spotlight monstrosities or the childish konfabulator like things would be implemented.
And do you think Apple would rip off Konfabulator and then call it's widgets "gadgets", just to make sure everybody realizes it is a plain rip-off?

Just because these are the shots we have, doesn't mean that's all there is. There is notable lack of Finder pics and I doubt very much that apple hasn't upgraded the finder at all as they have with every release to date. Would you really be able to take a picture of a revised file system with metadata support? Perhaps, if there was a gui representation of such in through the finder.
If these are real (and Think Secret is now reporting that the features are in line with other sources), they certainly don't cover the entire gammet of what is available. Steve couldn't base his entire keynote on just a revised prefs pane and the dashboard. There's clearly a lot that is not represented here so don't get in a tizzy and start saying that Apple must not have done much in the last year.

Well I surely hope 10.4 isn't a GUI makeover release, or just a random bunch of new interaction tools. There's an absolute ton of basic features that need to be addressed, such as networking, dynamically updating folders, Finder speed increase, and folder views to be far more customisable than they are just now. That's just a few things I can list of the top of my head.
Any GUI change should be used to bring everything together and not disparate as they are just now. GUI change would be nice but only where it makes sense. The screenshots above could be real, it's not like we haven't seen such things before and also thought, how could Apple do that?

MacRumors is now reporting that the images have been removed at the request of Apple Legal. That doesn't necessarily mean that they are legit, but it might be a clue. IMO, this is unfortunate, as the dashboard feature looks really inconsistent, and I don't understand the reasoning behind making the toolbar in System Preferences be part of the titlebar.
