This last year I was off in the world, and never got around to getting Panther. OS X 10.2.8 working fine for me for the time. Yet I've been salivating over a couple Panther specific features, like Expos, the newer safari, and so on. Anyone in the same boat as me? Tiger looks awesome though. Whatcha gonna do?

I think I'm going to finally upgrade to X.0... I hear it has some nifty features... like that dock thing
That said, If you didn't have panther now I wouldn't buy. Wait for Tiger which is pretty darn sweet and coming out within a year.

Waiting for Tiger could be a long wait. Within a year, yes, but just within a year ... like 10-11 months

My thoughts too. That's a long wait.

if your happy with 10.2 or concerned about the cost of the upgrades then holding off will not hurt. Sure there are some cool features your missing but nothing life or death. There are plenty of excellent browsers on OS X that support 10.2 still if you really need the updated safari.

Unless you're really cash-strapped, I'd go ahead and get Panthwire. I think it's a lot better than 10.2 just in general and the chances of Tiger coming out so soon that you'd be kicking yourself are near-zero, considering that developers have just been given access to the SDKs.

If you are a student, just get an ADC subscription and you'll receive a copy of panther now and you'll also receive a copy of Tiger when it comes out.

Is this true? I just got a student ADC subscription. I don't even have my PB yet. I'll be very happy if I manage to get a free copy of Tiger out of this (assuming it launches within 12 months).

If you have the paid-for account vs. the freebie, then yeah, it's true.

They have free ADC accounts that anyone can sign up for. But all you get is access to the website so you can download the DevTools and stuff like that. Nothing else, really. I only use it for the DevTools, myself.

I've had my copy of Panther sitting next to my G4 AGP for 3 or 4 months. I may install it this summer but I'm not sure. 10.2.8 is working just fine for my needs right now.

Hey I know how it feels - you're in the midst of a rather major project, 10.2.8 is working perfectly, and you're only on one machine. I'll wait till a couple of things are finished and consider doing a clean install.
Yes, I do have everything backed up on an external drive, but still...
