The new Panther iDisk synch is great, BUT, the computer seems to think that the iDisk is offline all the time, and won't allow me to access the "Software," "Library," and "Backup" folders. These folders show up as shortcuts that open up to the following message:

"The selected directory is only available when the iDisk is online. To access this directory you will need to take your computer online."

The question now is, how the heck do I accomplish this???

Thanks.

This may be a dumb question but you do have a .Mac account right???

If so you might try turning off the sync option and seeing if you can mount your iDisk. If you have a problem you may figure out a little more this way...

Also try mirror syncing it by clicking the little round button next to it in a finder window. If it goes through a mirror sync without error then try accessing it again...

I wouldn't normally resurrect such an old thread, but I've got the exact same problem - my iDisk is offline, and I can find no way to force it back online other than switching it to sync manually. Isn't there a more elegant way to force it back online?

Interesting revival of this thread...

Try the .Mac panel on System Preferences (in the iDisk tab).

Could you be more specific? Going to the iDisk tab alone did not resolve the problem - even though it connected, it did not take the iDisk volume in the finder online. It does not have an explicit "put iDisk online" option. Changing the sync setting to manually did get it online, but that's not a solution to the problem, changing settings every time it gets screwed up.
