Aloha,
I have a 1.25ghz G4 PowerMac running 10.2.6. I installed a brand new (not initialized or formatted, totally bare) 160GB Seagate Barracuda hard drive into a brand new OWC Mercury Elite Pro FireWire (Oxford 911 chip set) case and have connected it to the PowerMac via the FireWire cable.
When I turn on the new Hard Drive it doesn't appear on the desktop nor does it show up in Disk Utility. Because it doesn't appear at all in Disk Utility I'm unable to format the new drive.
What should I do to be able to format it?
Thanks,
John
(I know, this could go in the Peripherals forum, but I wanted to reach those who have the same machine as me, thus that's the PM forum).

Nevermind I tried everything, unplugging, plugging in, repair permissions etc., nothing worked. Took the enclosure apart, unhooked everything inside, and hooked everything back up again. To my untrained eye, this second foray into putting it together went exactly same as the first, except the second time, Disk Utility recognized the drive and I was able to format and then clone my main hard drive with Carbon Copy Cloner. And also was able to reboot into the new (backup) drive, hence CCC did well making a bootable clone.
Hopefully the drive will continue to be recognized, we'll see..........
