Since the new iMac has two internal speakers, can they be used with the iSub?

Isn't the iSub USB? Wouldn't it work if the OS has the drivers?

Technically, yes ... but I think the original poster meant would it work the same way that it works with previous consumer macs (by automatically adjusting the internal speakers to only play mid and high end while routing the lows to the iSub). This "smart" behavior only works with iSub/internal speakers -- NOT if you have externals plugged in.
Having said that, I still think you are correct. I can't imagine why Apple's drivers wouldn't function the same way with the new iMac's internals as it has with past internals.

I imagine the iSub will work just as well with the new iMac - the iSub even seems to work with PowerBooks in my experience. I really wish the iSub was still available (sans the soundsticks). It was a great product, and I consider myself lucky to possess one - they stopped selling them before the end of the CRT iMac. You can't even get one on ebay at this time!

Thanks, Krusty. That's what I meant.
And just noticed a blurb on the iMac product page that it does support USB subwoofers, although it doesn't mention the iSub explicitly.

Actually, the isub will work with ANY sound ouput, external, internal, or whatever you wish. It just knocks the lows (and possibly mids) off the main output and sends those to the isub.
My g4 with pro speakers has an isub.. works great, but I've also used it with cheap speakers and even the g4's internal ![Wink](https://forums.macnn.com/images/smilies/oldschool/wink.gif) It also worked on imac g4s, imac g3s, ibooks, powerbooks, the list goes on.
They do rawk. I suggest you give it a shot ![Wink](https://forums.macnn.com/images/smilies/oldschool/wink.gif)

I wonder if the new iMac's internal speakers are as good as the external globe speakers that my old style iMac has....
