140 person strong, down to 0. Came back from away message today and all my buddies were gone. The categories were all there, however. Guess I should have saved my buddy list?

Signing in from the official client should do it. Or if you were using adium they have a little app for getting them back.

Adium ate my buddy list a couple of months ago. Is there any chance the utility could retrieve any of those names this far in the future? And where is said utility? I didn't see it on their site.

Going on the real AIM client was no use, because I was already on it. I can't retrieve some of them, but I guess it doesn't matter. Maybe when it was 0/0 I shouldn't have talked to anyone? Because that automatically added a person to my buddy list (recent buddies) and maybe altered the buddy list forever. who knows.

a few friends at my last college had that problem with GAIM. it would store their contacts on their computer when they connected using TOC and when they logged in with the official client when they went home they had no contacts.

I haven't had a problem because I use Address Book for my contacts with Adium but check the GAIM website it might have some info there. I think there is something wrong there.

Oddly enough, I've been having AIM troubles all day as well. When I sign on with iChat or the official AIM client, everyone shows up as being offline. If I restart or reconnect to the internet, nothing changes. Oh yeah, this only affects my main AIM account.

When I sign on using AIM Express, which I'm doing now, everything works fine. Odd . . .

look at it this way, now you can find out who "really" wants to chat with you because they will message you first. this is a good way to cut down the people on your list that aren't worth your time.

that's the only thing that will make me feel better. so it's kind of like i deleted 70 people that i don't really talk to. saves some of my time for other things other than chatting up to 71 now though

I don't remember any because I use Address Book so their real names show up in iChat. It's a life saver. It's a lot nicer to receive an IM from "Jimmy James" or whatever than "jdude23412lolz!!!!1!!."
