Can the powerbook be put into sleep mode, then have the battery taken out and a charged battery put in and then taken out of sleep mode without the system shutting down...i guess i'm looking for an uninterrupted battery swap.
thx

Yes but only on the 15" and 17". The 12" needs to be shut down if memory serves me correctly.

This is indeed correct. (Well technically you could just put the 12" to sleep and take out the battery, but doing so effectively shuts off the 12").

Why, what is the difference between a 12" and the 15 or 17" models? Do they have an internal battery that takes over?

Yes. The 12" does not have a memory backup battery while the 15" and 17" do.
