Why are the icons all messed up?

I had the same problem today, all torrent files had changed their icons, but after a reboot, they were normal again... have you tried rebooting?
perhaps it has something to do with the new OS update?

yea restarting did the trick, but this happens a little too often with all different kinds of icons for me. Don't know why....

This a a known bug of 10.3, or one of Steve's 150+ features... It's here since 10.3 and still not fixed, like the freeze issue and a lot more

It's because the Finder is broken.
Maybe it'll be fixed in OS XI.

I've never seen any folder switch over to that.....hmmmm. Anybody know the cause of it, or does it just happen?

Certain files and file-type icons mess up for me all the time--restarting fixes it.

It happens to me often as well. Sometimes the icon will look messed up, other times the icon is replaced by a picture or another icon. Restarting is the only fix I have found.
