I've asked a few chatrooms wether or not there is going to be an ipod like the ipod photo but for movies, it wouldn't be hard.

It'll come at some point, but I somehow don't think Apple will lead the pack with it. They will instead wait to be forced into doing it.

Don't know when, but I'm sure it will happen at some point.

its not going to happen for many years until mainstream internet connections are fast enough to download such large files, hardrives on computers and ipods have large enough volumes to hold a movie collection comparable to a music collection, and the mpaa allows the licensing, which isnt looking hot. Thats my opinion. So i wouldnt count on movies taking the path of music for a handful of years at the least.

A calculator feature would be a good idea too.

i agree with you.

Also, i think Apple will wait for the technology to fit the form factor(size/weight/heat/battery) and price of the iPod before including a movie feature.

iPod movie will come about once Apple has a way for you to rip your own DVDs legally and buy em online. Right now Apple is not the ones in the way it's the MPAA

Steve is reaching out to Motorola. The deal could lead to iTunes on cell phones. They already have the ability for photos, which cloud lead to iPhoto. So it would seem that movies may not be far behind.

Sorry, seems to be some technical difficulty again.

Here's the deal. I agree with those who say watching a 2 hour movie on a 2" screen is a novelty at best. Too small and too awkward....for that length of time. However with that said why not allow for people to watch their iMovie creations on an iPod? When I get the money together I'm going to start looking for a multimedia device that will allow me to play back QT files primarily for my business. Apple could be in the running for my money but because of Steve Jobs' elitist attitude they won't.

I think Apple has to make efforts to not have the MPAA sue em. That said the MPAA not allowing at least Apple to do this is stupid. They could release something like "iFlicks" and have a DeCSS cracker integrated, and then people could bring their DVDs with em anywhere. Apple could then get air lines to put 10 inch LCDs in the back of some chairs in say first class and have iPod dock connectors so users could do that, they could work with auto manufactures to have iPod support in vehicles etc.

Ultimately Apple could do a lot, sadly other companies have to play nice with em.

I'm still pushing for some kind of iPod to mobile video screen hookup in the car. For example, have the iPod in your hand with the click wheel and all, but have the display mirrored on an in-dash display, so it's easier to see. I think that would be pretty innovative. Then you don't have to use those crappy Alpine deck controls.

I'm just speaking from verbatim Steve Jobs' stance on the issue. A dock shouldn't be necessary for utilizing video out. Just give us a full fledged multimedia device that is portable. The iPod photo is 3/4 of the way there. In last year's market that would be fine but this year there are now devices that do what I want perhaps not in the smaller form factor but definately in the same price range.

Holy crap. We have a winner!

It's on the dock, right? Well, couple that with two audio jacks, and you've got a portable movie repository!

So perhaps the iPod (I think a name change might be appropriate here. iPod: Media Edition?) is closer to being able to playback films than we think...?

Well yeah. It's just a working name. iPod Movie is probably what they'll call it. Only problem with it is that it sounds like it is a movie about iPods.

hey, I have no idea here's but I'm just wondering...what are the limitations preventing someone from cracking the iPod to allow movie playback? Surely there's someone that could write the crack?

The iPod on Linux team are your best bet, but they've only just replicated the functionality of the basic iPod OS in a year or two.

iPod Cinema ain't bad. "Cinema" sounds a bit more classy than "movie".

As for somehow rigging up the iPod Photo to playback movies, I do believe that it has the required hardware to playback Quicktime files, and that some wacky genius managed to get a slideshow running quick enough with a soundtrack in the background to successfully mimic a movie/film/moving pictures.

Look at the January Macworld, page 5.

"The big problem is something else Jobs mentioned-a complete lack of content to put on such a video player. You can fill your iPod with music downloaded from online music stores or ripped CDs you own, and anyone with a digital camera has a ready supply of photos. But where do you get videos? You can't legally download then from the Internet or, under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, transfer the contents of a DVD onto your Mac's hard drive."
