I have Apple Remote Desktop installed on two computer. They were always able to connect, but i recently had to connect one computer to a linksys router. Since then I have been unsucessful in using Apple Remote Desktop.

I went to 'port fowarding' and entered the two port numbers that should make ARD work. Those numbers are 5900 and 3283. I selected to 'enable' those ports on the computer 192.xxx.xx.xx (the computer which i am trying to connect to).

What am i doing wrong. Anyone have experience with a linksys router?

I could be wrong as I don't have a linksys anymore but I think ARD uses UDP rather than TCP. On the linksys I used to have TCP was the default one selected though you can select both for a particular port number.

And just to be clear BOTH computers are now on the same linksys router or not?

If it is a multiple router/switch setup I believe you may have something to do whether or not the linksys is acting as a gateway or a router (there is a setup choice somewhere in there). I say this because it distributes ip numbers through DHCP differently depending on which it is.

Of course like I said I haven't had to deal with this in quite a while so could be totally wrong.

I would post in networking forum where folks who know that stuff visit more often.

How were the computers connected initially? Crossover cable? On the same switch?

If you connected one to a Linksys router, they're going to be on different networks, and if they're on different physical networks, how are you trying to connect?

If you're trying to connect through the internet are you typing in the WAN ip?
