So everyone's seen the new Powerbooks... Nice, not earthshaking, but nice. What I REALLY want, though, is the image they're showing as wallpaper in this picture:

The temple is what I'm referring to.

The apple PR images haven't been updated yet, so that's out.
Anyone got any ideas? (and no, copying from that image and blowing it up isn't going to work.)
One other question - Anyone know where Apple gets these images? They always have the coolest stock photos..

You can do a search at either http://www.corbisimages.com/ or http://www.gettyone.com/ and if you can't find this image specifically, you'll find hundreds of very similar images.

However, they are NOT free. You have to purchase the rights to use these images. I do believe that both of these companies offer a "personal use" fee.

Hi, mates! It is the Matsumoto Castle in Nagano of Japan (where they had the Winter Olympics in 1998), and if you type "Matsumoto jo" or "Matsumoto castle" in Google, it will leads you to the way! "jo" means "castle" in Japanese.

Here some links for you.

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6051.html
http://www.jcastle.info/castle/matsumoto.html

This is the official site of the Castle.
http://www.city.matsumoto.nagano.jp/...ide_CASTLE.asp

Hope this info would help you. Many of us, Japanese users, are happy about this pic! Well, some say "The cloudy sky suggests its "cloudy" update" ironically though, haha.

Hello again. I just searched quite a bit, and let me itroduce you some images of the Matsumoto Castle.

These two are high resolution images, so they are bearable for the desktop picture.

http://www.bigfield.com/~hiroshi/alb...1042142060.jpg

These are not good enough for the purpose, but look good.

Probably this is the same image as Apple use, but very small size, sorry.

If I find better one, I will post it here. Ciao!

Well, Good news/Bad news.
The good news: Found the picture!

Apple did a bit of a photoshop job on it, but it's the one.

http://pro.corbis.com/popup/Enlargem...-e842eee11ef5}

Sorry if that URL doesn't work, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
The Photographer is Michael S. Yamashita, and a search for Matsumoto Castle should bring it up pretty quickly.

The Bad news is it's unsurprisingly rights managed, which means you've got to:
a. Have a Corbis account.
b. Pay.

I'm not sure if either of those fit into my plans, but we'll see.

Hello again and again. I just typed "matsumoto castle" onto Corbis, and I could find the same image as Apple uses. :-) So I suggest you to try it!

This is also very beautiful, which is taken by the same photographer at the same place (but different angle).

wow. another poster in a different thread was right: the marketing geniuses at apple cranked up the brightness in the image to make the screen appear brighter. quite obvious now that we see the original.

What are you talking about? How would anyone else know what the original picture looked like to compare it to? They increased the brightness and did other photoshop work to it to make the picture look better, not make the screens look brighter.

If they really wanted to make the screen look brighter, they would have just posted it with a white background. You cannot tell a computer's screen brightness from an image, especially when you are looking at that image on a computer screen!

Wow.

Yeah, I removed the watermark from the corbis preview (hey, it aint commercial use... I'm not paying $270 for a f*cking wallpaper image...), but the image itself is too low resolution. It's actually one that's been scaled down before, and it was saved incredibly low quality (possibly to prevent just this!), so it's just not useable. Unless someone else wants to take a crack at it, I think we're pretty much waiting for Apple to update it's press images.

Oh gosh, is it THAT expensive!? No, it is not worth paying...

domymel and R3z, yeah, I know that the image is protected, but I thought that it would be something like 5-10 dollar for personal use. Well, reality is not like that at all.

rcitrin, I don't know where you can find a higher resolution image very unfortunately. Sorry, mate.

rcitrin, Mafia and R3z, thanks for your comments about the alternative image of the castle. I'm glad hear that you love it. :-)
