I have to send my 15 Al-book in for service - a faulty logic board. I am out of warranty and am trying to decide between taking it to the apple store and letting them deal with it, or having a third party like the MacResQ guys fix it. Any opinions as to which is the better option?

i've had experience with the apple service, and i feel that it is definitely first class, can not speak for MacResQ though, never dealt with them. I know that if you ship it to apple, they can appriase it and give you a cost before they do any work to it, so you can see how much it will set you back.

sometimes it might be worth it to buy a refreshed one and fleabaying the "broken" one for parts (they for some reason still hold a pretty good value, even if broken)

I used these guys for my iPod repair. Very top notch people. The box they sent me was very nice and cushy and they called me and talked to me over the phone explaining the problem and the cost before performing the service and got it back to me quickly. I have nothing but good things to say about them.
