My bird just died 20 minutes ago. The whole thing was so random. I was just playing around with him this morning. An hour ago he started throwing up and he didn't look right. We were going to bring him to the vet.
Just before he died he made a small chirp.
He was only 4 years old.
Here are a couple of pictures when firt got him
I'm not sure what we should do with him. I don't know if I like the idea of burying him in the back yard.

Cute lil guy. You might put him in a box if you bury him in the backyard or something.

Too bad.
Was he a sun conure?
I know it sounds bad, but maybe buy another one?
I love birds.
Sorry for you.

You could have him cremated at the vet if you want... My dog was 60 lbs. and he was only $75... if cost is an issue.

Sorry to hear the bad news. I vote that you cremate him and shoot his ashes out of a canon - like Hunter S. Thompson.

There are several companies that make biodegradable pet caskets. I think they last for a few decades. However, most are pretty expensive -- though I have seen some for around $50 online.
If you're interested in something like that, I'll see if I can find the links again for you.
Sorry for your loss.

I don't think we will. Atleast not anytime soon. In a couple of years my house is going to be totally empty. Me and my brothers will be at college and my parents will still be working. A bird needs a lot of attention.
Its going to be strange without him around.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Happy one sec, dead the next. Very strange with birds. Sorry about your loss. I buried mine in the backyard.

Thanks, I think I'm just going to bury him right now. I probably won't get another chance to bury him this week, there is going to be a big snow storm tonight.

My wife's bird died that quickly as well.
She (she's training to be a vet) said that birds internalize most injury and sickness to prevent looking vulnerable, so it is very hard to determine if they are sick.
Really sad. Sorry for your loss.

Bury him deep and in a box of some kind.
You don't want an animal diggin up his remains.

Get a parakeet. The little male parakeets can learn to speak very well, actually, and they're so cute. They are also very portable and readily accepted most places (whereas bigger dogs, cats, and larger parrots are not) so he can go with you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. We had a scare with one of our babies (cockatiel) earlier this year. Having an avian vet nearby was key to helping her.
I know some stranger's comments on a computer bulletin board isn't comfort, my wife and I feel for you and your conure. He was a beautiful bird. I can see the life he brought by the pictures. I would recommend planting a native tree (for outdoor birds to enjoy) and burying him in a small shoe box at the base of the tree.

I found a couple of more recent pictures of him. These were taken last summer. He loved to sit on the window and just bask in the sunlight.

I used to burry my pets in the back yard. But now when I go back where they are buried it creeps me out. Just a thought.

Having two birds, I feel for your loss. I'm sure the bird was happy with you and was happy up until the end.

I do parrot rescue/rehab and adoption.
I'm so sorry for your loss as I have Cockatoos.
I may have a Conure coming to me Saturday.
If you're near GA, I'll expedite an interview.
My birds are free to the right homes.

I'm so sorry.
I want a sun conure which looks similar to your little guy.
One of my little parakeets was sick not too long ago (we determined that it was just a stressful molt) and I was so scared that he would die. But luckily he pulled through.

We are part of Safe Harbor Animal Rescue down here in Florida and occasionally we get a bird or two also.
I was thinking the same thing as you - I think he should get another bird.

Sorry about your birdy.
I too have birds as pets. I have finches and a cockatoo, plus the baby wildbirds that I raise and release in the summer.
I just lost my Gouldian Finch to an internal tumor last saturday.
He will be sorely missed.

The problem with that is that they do it in groups so really you aren't getting your dogs ashes. Well if you care about that sort of thing. I bury my animals in the backyard when they die, god help whoever moves into our house if we sell.

My wife deserves all the credit as she's the one that cares for them.
At the moment we have 15. Saturday will make 17. An umbrella cockatoo is coming to us also. His owner has terminal throat cancer.

He is so cute. I'm very sorry for your loss. Know how much a pet becomes part of the family. Hopefully you will be able to purchase a new bird soon.

Awwww such a cute bird sorry for your loss. I know when I pets have died, (5 rats so far) its like losing a member of the family. I don't know if cost would be a problem for you but you might want to have the vet do some blood work to find the cause of death, who knows perhaps the bird (wish you left his name so I could refer to the bird by his name) ate something or got into something that caused this or was sick with something. It might be worth finding out to put your mind at ease and when you get your next pet something to prevent if it was preventable. Again sorry for your loss.
