Classic? Hmm, sounds familiar. I vaguely remember something called "Classic" a few years back involving OS X. It's been so long I can't place it though. Damn!

I still need Classic unfortunately. There is no replacement for the free 3D modelling application "Design Workshop Lite" that I've been using in recent years. The producers don't seem to be interested in updating the Mac version, and nobody else seems to have a free (or even cheap) application that does the same job.

I used it to connect to the Exchange-server at work with Outlook 2001. No other way of doing it
No classic on my PB though. And Deus Ex won't work in classic either the last time I tried... so good riddance.

No classic. If I can't fix it in OS X, it wasn't meant to be.

Have Classic. Maybe when Quark 7 comes out, it'll be pushed off to the side but I'll probably keep it on my bootable external for as long as its bundled with OS X, just in case.

Until I up my ram I still sometimes use OS 9 for my web work. Other times I use OS 9 for real time sound editing with Pro Tools just because OS 9 is sooooooo light on the system resources. And I miss its simply function sometimes.
When I have Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Graphic Converter, Word, IE or Netscape, ICQ, MSN, Transmit, Macast all open at the same time my Mac on OS 9 is still faster then my P4 2.8Ghz and its only a 800Mhz G4 with 256MB of PC133 ram. All that runs fine in OS X too at the same time but switching apps takes a while. And in OS 9 I can run all that with VM off for that extra speed so im going to keep OS 9 for a while. Wish new machines could run OS 9 though. One of the reasons im keeping my iMac for many years to come.

I've still got it, though I'm not sure why. When I went from 10.1 to Jaguar I still had the odd Classic app or two, like Photoshop (I hadn't updated yet). When I went from Jaguar to Panther I kept it because...just in case, I guess.
But as soon as I make the move to Tiger it's gone. Classic and every remnant and trace of it.
Free at last and all that.

I've had it for Adobe Streamline, though I leave it off until I need it, and my periodic hard drive wipes have gotten it off all my computers but one.
AFAICT, Adobe CS2 has a streamline like function, so I may never need it again.
I do still want to finish Baldur's Gate one of these days though.

I've got a minimalist, stripped down system 9 folder for running just two apps : Netscape 4 and IE 5.
It's scary how many people still use those, although perfectly understandable. So checking any site I build is still needed.

I got it on my Powerbook. i tried going without it for a period...survived just fine. The only time i ever boot into OS9 is to play Full Throttle or X-Plane( which runs a lot more smoothly in 9 than is X).

I still say it's justifiable for Apple to no longer support Classic once 10.5 hits, in 2007.
I know that a few people at MacNN would vehemently disagree with this, though.

Yes, but haven't used it in months. Just haven't removed Classic, sounds like a good project when I install Tiger.

Yes, like a classic automobile, it should be used as infrequently as possible. I'm sorry to say, but Classic:

You and a million other designers out there... I just don't get Adobe at times. How hard would it be to make a crap OS X port of Streamline and charge $50 for an upgrade?

No, they've "integrated" the feature into Illustrator, which is a $149.00 upgrade. but don't expect it to actually work, or for any bug fixes ("Bug fix? What's that?" --Adobe Illustrator Team) to be forthcoming, until you've paid for at least 2 more $149.00 "upgrades."

I have a full working install of MacOS 9 on a separate partition that I can boot into, so voted Yes. Even with 3DfxGlideLib, games still work best in their native environment.

Because there are a lot of apps that have no OS X-native replacement, that's why.

I miss being abel to boot into OS 9 natively My iMac G5 wont do it. My old 1GHz eMac was the last Apple model that could to it. And it was damn ugly I might add... and huge.

Have a look at the poll. Roughly half of the people responding use Classic. And the people that make up the MacNN community are more likely to be enthusiasts who will have upgraded all their software than the average user, so...

Not on my home computer.
But at work we use OS 9 because that is what our ad tracking program was written for.
We are moving to OS X soon after Tiger's release. Probably around 10.4.1

Yes, on my QS since it still supports OS9.
I would not run Classic through OSX.
