This is a report from everyone I read of and chatted with who say they have Tiger.
Pro
Tiger is very fast. Kills Panther and XP
Very fast boot. Always under 20 secs.
Very fast shutdown.
Very smooth resizing of windows.
Spotlight very quick. Some made the mistake of not waiting for indexing to finish so they said it was slow. Please wait for indexing to finish.
Many apps not broken. Office not broken. iLife not broken. All work faster.
Typing is faster.
Safari 2 is fast like Firefox
Mail launches very fast. Nice interface.
Has dictionary application. American language.
Dashboard. Mostly useful for Americans but nice. Stickies not meant to replace the real Stickies.app. Same with some other widgets.
Preview pane very fast, works with AVI better than Panther
Doom3, Unreal 2004, Call of Duty all faster.
Con
Slower firewire copying.
Address book crashes when you choose to show a phone number as large type.
Quicktime movies not playing in the Dock. When you want to restore playing movie from the Dock it doesn't.
If copying across firewire freezes Finder is hard to kill and restore.
Airport reception lower.
Quicktime and DVD Player Live resize disabled on Geforce 4MX, working in eariler beta.
VLC crash when coming out of fullscreen mode, some drawing problems.
PowerBook heat problem.

It seems that in some of the Tiger demo videos, safari re-sizing is still very choppy.

Yes, you can choose directories that are off limits to spotlight.

i do see the slower firewire copying, no hard freezes that I have seen though.
No Address Book crash.
Quicktime movies don't play in the Dock, but do restore.
No Airport reception problems on 12" PB, in fact seems better.
No heat problems on PB.
No live resize on GF4mx in QT
No VLC problems in fullscreen.

I have that VLC problem. I don't know if it's full screen related or what, but it does 'unexpectedly quit'
oh, and airport signal is BETTER.

Well, I've heard *cough* that Widgets can be buggy. Like wrong ones appearing when you try to add extra ones to the set.
And apparently *cough* Xbench shows massive improvements in the user interface test! With negligible differences else where in the test.

Myth.. I noticed this too.. But, upon further investigation.. if you use an Utility like APgrapher to display signal strength, you will notice that its actually exactly the same as it was in 10.3. Which leads me to think that all Apple did was re-calibrate the menu meter.

Wasn't this only in developer builds? It shouldn't let you search until the index is finished.. (Unless you're talking about speed, and the indexing slowing down other things some?)

Ya the computer itself is a bit slow when you first install it as indexing takes a while.
For my it took an hour for 80 gigs on a G5.

Firewire copying is indeed slower.
What really pisses me off is that the Finder still can't preview non .mov files worth shite. It just chokes with a nearly endless beachball. Windows has been seamlessly preview a wide variety of movie file types for years and years.

Does anyone understand (referring to the remarks in the above link):
How a new version of the OS can make Powerbooks overheat?
How Tiger can reduce the sensitivity of Airport?
I find these 2 remarks hard to believe

When someone collects reports from random sources I doubt they are also being told of the different conditions from which those reports came. Their PowerBooks might have gotten hot from something else such as indexing or running an intensive app. Airport range - many factors but rarely the OS. It could be that someone was sitting in a different place or simply had a bad connection at the time.

I don't know if these reports are true, but they're easily believable. Airport driver updates have both hurt and improved reception before, and using more CPU can always heat things up.

I recall every major OS X update had slower firewire transfer speeds which were then fixed by 10.x.1

For myself, I've only noticed a few minor display and UI bugs. Which does not equal "buggy as hell".
A number of smaller third-party apps don't work (StickyBrain, NetBarrier, Cisco VPN client, etc.) Quicktime performance is disappointing with some files. Have not noticed any reduction in Airport reception. UI responsiveness seems a little better on a Ti867 (ie. not CoreVideo-enabled). Spotlight works well for me - not quite the 'instant' response promised by the RDF but quick and usable just the same.
My PowerBook is usually hot as it is always running F@H, among other things.

I thought I read in another thread that the menu calibration for the airport has been adjusted, resulting what looks like better reception, even though the actual signal is still the same (based on 3rd party apps that display wireless info)...

Well, I remember someones peecee was stolen and this person didn't have that much money, so she bought a 8088 peecee (pffff). Whenever she started WordPerfect 5.1 the computer had such a hard job to load it, the screen was getting filled in about 1 minute (yes, we timed it!). Maybe that's what you mean by "less lag"? It then would be a graphics speed-up thing in Tiger!

I can't really tell why, but Airport range does improve with Tiger. I can tell, because it now reaces places in my house, which were out of range before, and i get much better reception from my usual workspots. Maybe it's better at switching between channels or somehow manages the connection better.
Besides that, things are faster, much faster. I suspect the reported slowdowns are memory related.
There's lots of small improvements everywhere. A favorite is the fullscreen mode in preview, really cool, and much more usefull than the rss screensaver.

what type of computer do you have? I've been reading reports that it's slower or faster, but i think it's related to the type of computer you have. I think the G5's will steamroll the operating system and the G4's may choke. Dual..Single....
Need more information from everyone.

Spotlight tip: press the cmd key and the selection changes from 'Show all' to 'Top hit'. I'm not sure that this is any fast than pressing the down arrow and then return, except that it allows you to keep your hands at the home position on the keyboard.

Does iChat now automatically send your away message, is there an option to enable/disable it if it does? I currently use iCAR (iChat Auto Reply) and its not to bad but sometimes causes iChat to crash when I receive a message.

Nice tip, thanks. I was curious how Apple was going to put this functionality in...

Selecting the text field to rename a folder or a file is slower than ever. It's literally three seconds from the first click to the text being highlighted.

The Shut Down button now gains focus after entering the password when another user is logged in. One still has to write down the user's name also instead of just the password, though.

Does iChat recieve offline messages yet? Otherwise it's still useless for me. The least they could do is have them forwarded to your Email.
