This isn't as good as it sounds. Aside from all the issues with compression and such, it also cannot distinguish between stuff you probably want cached (public sites) and stuff you don't want cached (things like private Web-based e-mail).

Do we have to be concerned that Google might take over the internet as M$ has taken over the Personal Computer ?

Sometimes I wonder, Turtle. I can't deny that unlike a certain Redmond-based company, Google actually makes some very good products. However, I don't trust them with anything even remotely private. They're in the business of storing and indexing data, after all; it's what they do, and they do it well.

Well, as a company, Google has gotten where they are because they make really cool stuff. Yeah, these "internet accelerator" things are kind of boondoggle, but most of the stuff they do is great. The search engine, Google Maps, GMail...

M$ got where they are by being in the right place at the right time with the original IBM PC deal, and afterwards through ruthless business tactics. Big difference...

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I still find it alarming that Google more and more wanders to offering PC applications as part of their service package. This excludes all non Windows user's (not too bad by itself, some of it I don't need on a Mac), but potentially more dangerous, it could be easily abused down the road AGAINST minority OSes if they pull their market share...

Not surprised, they have to stay ahead of Windows,
