Yay! I'll just proceed to install this over 10.3.9. . . Oh wait. Gotta make time for that upgrade now, one of these days.

Surely you can spare half an hour? All I did was pop in the Tiger disk, hit "continue" a few times, and go for a walk. I came back to a Tiger desktop.
Of course, you'll have to spend an hour or so doing light tasks like reading MacNN while Spotlight finishes its indexing.

After digging a little deeper with the Apple Kbase doc, nice that iSync no longer initially takes data from the computer and dumps it into the phone. I lost almost 140 contacts out of my phone the first time I sync'd up. Pain in the ass.
Says "Core graphics improvements" How can I check to see if QE2D is on?
Minor testing, but things do seem a little more snappy graphically....

Look in Quartz Debug under the Tools menu. It won't be.

lol, it's obvious your system is hacked up. This error IS not the one that safari shows, when it can't connect to a site.
404 errors are for when you reached a site, but the page was missing. That's handled on the server side.

1) widget auto-install removed?
2) can you share address books with non-.mac members?

If open safe files is left on in Safari, it will now notify the user that there is an application being downloaded, just as it does when .dmgs are downloded. See piracy's last comment in the widget vulnerability thread.

Big Mac's right about Dashboard.
The address book sharing with .mac users only is a feature. I don't care for it much myself since it would be nice to be able to share the AB with users on the same computer in your home.
The update feels good so far. Then again, I really didn't find much at fault with the original.

April 29 to May 16. Now that was a quick one.
How long did first minor updates "normally" take?

No.
But widgets are now added to the standard prompting process when "Open 'safe' files after downloading" is enabled. The user is explicitly prompted to download, and as such, this (relatively) minor issue is now a non-issue.

Actually, Mac OS X 10.4 8A428 was completely on March 26 and declared GM on March 28, so 10.4.1 has been in the works for over 6 weeks, which is a perfectly regular amount of time for a point update.

The freakin' MDD Audio Bug from the Mac OSX 10.3.6 Panther is still present in Mac OSX 10.4.1 Tiger!
Also the scrollbar graphic anomaly that appears while surfing in some forums and websites is still present.

Did you ever specifically, properly, and reproducibly report these to http://bugreport.apple.com/ ?

Can someone post the build number?
(Apple Menu > About This Mac > click on "Version 10.4.1" and post back what the build # says).
Thanks!

As for the Scrollbar graphic anomaly in Safari for a few websites and forums(the scrollbar leaving trail of bits of itself) a few people here at MacNN and MacAddict also experienced it but I myself didn't file a bug report on this yet. I think, Me and some other guy talked about this in a Mac OSX Tiger bug thread here, a short while ago.

10.4.1 deleted almost all of my 3rd party widgets. They were missing both from the common Widget folder and my own account's Widget folder. Thus, they weren't in my Widget bar either.
The weird part is one of the Widgets was still active.

One thing that 10.4.1 has broken is the SpamCop mail.bundle...it worked fine under 10.4.0 but upon launch you get a message that it is no longer compatible and gets moved to a bundles (disabled) folder.
just tried to install the JunkMatcher bundle and 10.4.1 does not like that either.....

Fast thinking, I just downloaded, but this makes me pause... I assume you installed it prior. Does it default back? Or just not install after the update?

The TransparentDock 10.4 update doesn't work with 10.4.1. Even if you try to change the settings it doesn't work. Funny that my dock is still pinned to the right bottom corner but it won't make the dock transparent. Guess I'll have to wiat for an update.

Can anyone print to a shared printer on their network? I can't...
10.3.9 broke it...
10.4.0 fixed it again...
10.4.1 murdered it slowly and painfully.
when i click Print (on press +P) I am met by a spinning beachball for at least 30 seconds before I get the print dialog, then when I click "print" I get another large helping of beachball spinning, followed by a generic printing error. And it does the same thing for "save as PDF" too... so it might not be just network printing. i think the whole print dialog was castrated.
Anyone else suffering?

Yeah, I just got an email from Kevin that he updated it, downloaded it, used it, was happy.
Noticed 10.4.1 was out 5 minutes later, downloaded it, used it, was happy.
Fired up TD again, didn't work. Bummer. I emailed him back, hopefully he'll have it soon.

I have no problems printing to a shared Windows printer, or printing to a regular networked printer (JetDirect).

10.4.1 set my PowerBook on FIRE!!!
Just kidding... but seriously... I don't notice hardly any differences with the update. Exposé feels a little faster and smoother. But here are my annoyances that didn't make the fix.
Menu item selections are still slow and sluggish.
Snap to grid in the Finder has a jerky look to it.
Desktop icon name hilights are still clipped off on the ends (where it's supposed to be round)
Safari still can't remember where the heck I want my window to stay
Quicktime 7 movies open in the far left upper corner up against the menu bar and side of the screen... that's terrible looking.
Finder preferences open the same way as Quicktime movies... up against the menu bar and side.
Finder scrolling (dragging the scroll thumb) is still slightly sluggish and not silky smooth.
I think that's pretty much it. Yes I know they are such little bugs... but, I'm a perfectionist and I notice the small details and it's sad to see that Panther was overall smoother when it came to menus and icon snap to grid and Finder scrolling... it's just really sad to see that Tiger has taken on it's own personallity... I mean... what was wrong with Panther's cosmetics... why do they always change it for the worse.
I'm buying a PC... wait... *throws up* oh yeah... Apple's good enough I guess.

FYI: 10.4.1 does NOT fix the Address Book Widget bug where after multiple uses and clicking on phone numbers, the text entry field fails to accept text... just returns system error beeps w/ each keystroke.

Working great for me, in fact it seems to be hitting the VM a little less now. Of course I already ordered more RAM, so I've got a real solution to that problem on its way.
