Is your machine liquid cooled? Everyone knows you can't have a ripple without a liquid. If it's liquid cooled, you need a different machine. If not, then someone has spilled their drink inside your computer!

You need isopropyl alcohol to clean out the sugar that was left when the Dr. Pepper got spilled in the thing. That should fix your problems.

I don't have the ripple... and I don't have any liquid in my machine.

Pull your graphics card and replace it with something below the requirements

(I agree the effect is a bit overboard)

Dashboard is for little applications called widgets that live in a layer above the normal application layer. That means they float above all other applications. The ripple is essential as it conveys to the user that these widgets float above applications (they are like something dropped into water that floats above it).

Dashboard without the ripple effect would be bad UI design.

That's silly.

I use Dashboard just fine on my Pismo, and there sure as hell aint no ripple on that (or other older machines) and they are supported Tiger platforms.

Ripple == eye candy "because we can"
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

My kid's iMac G4 doesn't have the ripple. I could trade it to you for whatever you've got.

Seriously, just click on it as soon as you drop it, and it'll stop the wobbling. Not sure where to turn it off permanently, though.

Yeah...what ripple effect?

My dual-1.42 ghz is certainly running Quartz Extreme. Is the ripple when you drag a new widget from the bar on the bottom up onto the screen?

Neither, really, just the part around the widget ripples. The widget itself 'bounces up and down' kinda like you dropped something bouyant on a pond of water.

I know you're joking, but a shadow can also give a floating effect.

The ripple is to make up for the slight delay in widgets loading, if you have the video card for it.
It looks cool, the first couple of times. I have the ripple on my PB17, don't have it on the Mac mini and I don't notice it being there/not being there any longer.

Besides the Ripple effect, anyone has seen the Typhoon effect?
-> Command R

Besides (2):I really don't understand the problem with the ripple effect: I hardly ever open a new widget, as all widgets I need stay open, so no ripple effect. If you close them all the time, it takes less effort to type in a Google search in Safari then open a Google Search Widget.

Apple r is the refresh on the widgets. That shows up regardless of one's video card.

There's also the slo-mo suck by holding the shift button and minimizing.

It doesn't show on my old iBook Dual USB (Ati RAGE128 mobility - 8MB VRAM)

Not bothered though

This is kinda like complaining that leather seats get too hot.

I would love to have the ripple effect on my powerbook. Would mean I have a more capable machine. Learn to appreciate your good fortune.

It is not like you are adding/removing widgets every day, is it?

The ripple could be toned down though.
