and why is it taking SO MUCH cpu time?
I just upgraded from 2.8 to 4.1 and (among other things) am seeing a task - comapcpowe that takes huge amounts of cpu time, frequently...affecting the overall responsiveness of my ageing G4(Sawtooth 350, 768Mb)...is this a legit task? nothing the "man" files on this...
thanks for any info/ideas/sympathy...

Do you have an APC UPS unit? If so, you likely installed an older version of APC's software that is no longer very compatible with the OS.

thanks...Apple has added their own version of this in EnergySaver prefs....possibly a conflict. Anyway, I deleted the APC driver. Unix question - does a task remain on the "top" list until it is killed? when I rebooted after deleting the coma thing, it was still there...

top shows the active processes in your system, and if it's listed there, then than means it may still be running (depends on what it's state is, though). You might want to do ps ax | grep -v grep | grep comapcpowe to see if it's still running.

"powerchute" is APC's name for their UPS monitor software, so I believe that's what you're looking at.
