It takes me 11 minutes to burn a DVD @ 8x in my external USB enclosure from my powerbook using Toast Titanum 6.1.

It takes me 8 minutes to burn a DVD @ 8x in my external USB enclosure from my desktop PC (windows xp) using Alcohol 120%.

Same enclosure.. same media...

Why?

Are the USB drivers on my powerbook / tiger dumbing down the transfer speeds or is it just that Toast Titanium sucks?

Any suggestions?

I noticed that on barefeats, the sustained transfer rates of USB 2.0 implemented on the macs were oddly slow.. is this truely the case?

Have you tried Disk Utility or Finder to burn? That'll help narrow down whether the drivers or application is to blame. If it's burning 8X that should eliminate any issues regarding transmission, as it would likely fail if it weren't fast enough.
