If you find VBR files in your ITUNES directory then do follow these instructions:
GO to the pages below to download ActivePerl and WinMP3Packer in
directories named "ActivePerl" and "WinMP3Packer".
http://ftp.activestate.com/ActivePer...x86-211909.msi
http://tinyurl.com/acsur
1. Install and run ActivePerl on the windows program desktop.
2. unpack and Execute WinMP3Packer.exe from the windows directory
it is stored
3. Bring up Itunes and look at the field which states the
"Bit Rate" for each song file. If the field is not listed
the go to "EDIT" then "VIEW OPTIONS" and click "bit rate".
4. If "VBR" appears in any file then that is one of your target
files. Note it on a notepad file(cut and paste the song and
the band name) and delete it from your itunes directory of
song files. Note: this will not delete the orgininal file.
5. After you finished all these deletions and notetations update
your ipod and this will delete the files that crash it.
6. Create another directory(VBR to CBR) for VBR(variable bit rate)
to CBR(constant bit rate) files.
7. cut and paste all your vbr files to this directory.
8. create another directory called "CBR".
9. Go the WinMP3Packer window
10.click top left screen icon for files or folders to select.
(VBR to CBR)
11.Input type: click VBR
12.Output type: click CBR
13.MININUM BITRATE: CLICK 256
14.CLEAR OR CUT "APPEND TEXT TO FILENAMES" box.
(you don't want unnessary text on your song filenames)
15.UNCHECK THE NEXT THREE OPTIONS(do not use these options)
a. STRIP NON-MP3...
b. DELETE INPUT FILES....
c. OVERWRITE EXITSING FILES
16.output folder: select "custom" your "CBR" folder.
DON'T OVERWRITE THE FILES BECAUSE THE PROCESS COULD FAIL THE
FIRST OR SECOND TIMES FOR ANY FILES.
17.fast inmemory processing: I've increased it to 1000 from the
default of 40 but I have a 2.4Ghz processor with
2G of ram hypertheaded to 4G.
18.click "process"
20.TAKE NOTE OF THE PROCESS WINDOW FOR ANY FAILED TO CONVERT FILES.
21.RE-INITIATE THE PROCESS FOR ANY FAILED FILES.
22.ITUNES IS PROBABLY THE ONLY PROGRAM WHICH WILL TELL YOU IF THE
FILES ARE STILL VBR IN A SEPERATE FIELD BESIDES THE WINDOWS
PROPERTIES FOR THAT FILE.
23.COPY SUCCESSFUL FILE CONVERSIONS BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL DIRECTORIES.
24.ADD THEM TO ITUNES, CHECK FOR BIT RATE FIELD FOR VBR AND IF CLEAR OF
VBR STATUS FOR ALL THEN UPDATE THE IPOD.
BELOW IS ALL THE INFO I RECIEVED FROM WEBSITES ON THE PROGRAMS.
The PDK does not include the Perl distribution. Rather, it is a set of tools
designed to work with Perl. The best installation of Perl to use is:
http://ftp.activestate.com/ActivePer...x86-211909.msi
I've just finished development of a front-end GUI to
a script which will convert VBR MP3s
into CBR MP3s (as well as the other way around...)
What it does is take the maximum kbps frame out of the
file, usually 320kbps, and will apply that bitrate to
the rest of the file. The data in the frames themselves
is not changed, the frames are simply padded out so that
they are all the same length. The CDJ-200's, and I
suspect other hardware players, don't have a problem
with the files any more.
Changelog for 0.4 beta (04 Feb 2006):
- Support for mp3packer.pl 0.09 (included in package).
- Multiple attempts at converting VBR->CBR are no longer necessary, thanks to the new switch, '-i' (thanks Omion). As a result, the 'attempts' field has been removed.
- Removed the 'Only for VBR input' option which was causing confusion.
- New options to filter out the input files depending on their type.
'Automatic' (the default) will convert only the files that need processing.
This means:
. When converting *to* VBR, only CBR files will be processed.
. When converting *to* CBR, only VBR files will be processed.
If you want all mp3 files to be processed no matter what, untick the 'Automatic' option and tick the CBR/VBR checkboxes as appropriate.
. Message box prompt when processing is complete, informing you of how many files were processed, skipped, or had errors.
