I'm not sure what graphics card that iMac has, but I played games on my 400 MHz G3 Blue & white tower back in the day, which came with a Rage 128 with 16 MB VRAM. Quake III and Unreal Tournament ran well (not at their best, but well). Myth and Myth II also, those are fantastic games! To play Doom or Doom II you'd have to investigate if there are any OS X ports (you /are/ using OS X, aren't you?) or if they run in Classic. Go grab the latest build of Aleph One and play the Marathon games with updated graphics and better controls.
(btw I think this might be more of a topic for the Games forum)

For the love of God man, why didn't you buy a Mini like I said? I knew this would come and now you are going to have to hunt high and low for some pathetic games that your kids will complain about because they run too slow. I played next to no games on my old imac.
Well, I think that your best option would be to get a Super Nintendo emulator. Snes9x is the best. It's requirements are something like 200MHz and 32MB RAM and it plays pretty much every snes game perfectly. I run it on my Mac mini as I prefer it to the modern games. I have over 100 of the best games ever made and they take up just 250MB on my HD. The Donkey Kong games are the best IMO and great for the age group your kids are at.
Using the emulator is actually better than the SNES because you can save games at any time and they load instantly.
The bad news is that getting the roms for the games is a questionable practise. Personally I don't see a problem because you can't really buy those games now anyway. It's a bit like recording TV shows. I will leave you to find the roms via google. I honestly think it's the best option you have now.
