I want to get the new MacBook and want to sell my just purchased 17" from November. The computer is in near mint condition and has 2 GB of ram (3rd party) and ordered new with the 100 GB 7200 RPM upgrade. The cpu is 1.67 GHZ and has the new increased resolution (1680x1050) and the dual layer superdrive etc.. It doesnt have any screen problems or dead pixels.. it is perfect shape with no scratches etc..

I purchased it online at the end of November about 2 weeks after they upgraded it.
Of course, i have all the orginal packaging and discs etc.. Ive just had this a couple weeks.

So, I am looking to get $2000 for it. I can send pics etc. later if there is interest. I am in Cincinnati.

Thanks,
Jacob

Hi there.. I ran into some snags with this as found out today some things about the new Core Duo from macrumors and other sites.. http://episteme.arstechnica.com/grou...m/257008327731

The problems:

1. lack of availablity of the following

classic mode - not supported by rosetta - so cant play Myst 1 and Myst II (Riven) - I still have to beat Riven
2. No eclipse (Java development environement) I need this as I am a professional Java developer. Eclipse does not run under rosetta (see link above). I dont want to use Xcode for all my Java development needs in the interim.

3. Performance- http://www.macworld.com/2006/01/feat...est1/index.php Most of the rosetta apps run at 30-45% of the original speed of a G5 according to the article. So, this will be even more noticable on the slower GHZ core duo laptop edition.

4. Games - just dont see all the games I have being ported over by aspyr as some of the quake III games run well enough that they have said that they arent going to make them universal. So my favorite games like Return to Castle Wolfeinstein or Knights of the Old republic will likely not be ported over and will suck horribly. What about Diablo II? It runs slow now on a new laptop with a ATI 9700. I dont see this being ported over to a real universal app anytime soon if ever. This is one of my favorite games and play it regulary on G4.

5. Cost - have not got an offer for what I was asking: $1750+shipping so going to keep the laptop after all and use to play D2 and Myst 1-5 and just enjoy it.. I am just losing too much money on the deal and dont want to give the system away. For me to buy the new laptop with the same memory and hd space is $2700 + sales tax. I am losing about $700 on the deal as is.

Thanks,
Jacob

Hold on.. i dont know what im talking about.. I read some more.. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthre...=quake+rosetta

Maybe Xcode wont be that bad for running java because it will be native and Java will run faster on Intel -based macs.. Oh well.. so I eat some depreciation for the cost. I do get iLife 06 and iSight built in there is a $150 Amazon rebate on the new laptop. I can play Myst/Diablo II on a common PC anways.. Laptop is for sale!

I need to mention that I do not agree with PayPal's user license and do not wish to use PayPal. The deal fell through because of this. Alos, I cant make the buyer pay for the selling PayPal fees (2.9%) and want to walk away with $1750 in my pocket after expenses.

So, I am just going to keep the laptop. Thanks everybody.

Not to hijack the thread, but I am in a similar boat (recent Powerbook purchase). I have decided to continue to enjoy my great machine and replace it in the usual time rather than sell to upgrade now. I think it will be a year before the bugs are worked out and all my applications run the way I need them. Enjoy yours, it still rocks.

I live an hour or so south, so we met at the Cincinatti Apple Store. Easier just to skip work
and not have to wait for the mail or ups, and inspect the merchandise in person
