Hello,

I was wondering how warm your eMac hard drives are running?

After "upgrading" my eMac with a variable fan speed controller (pretty similar to the Zalman Fan Mate 2), I'm able to reduce the annoying airflow noise of the fan to a quiet whisper while only slightly increasing the temperature of the air leaving the eMac.

While this suggests that everything is well within the limits I was wondering at which temperture your eMac hard drive settles after some hours of continuous work? I measured using TemperatureMonitor.

IIRC, before the experiment the drive was around 37-39° C / 98-102 F under full load. Now after 1h under full load and continuous movie playing it settles at 46°C / 115 F. Still well within the specifications of the drive I assume, plus this is actual drive temperature (S.M.A.R.T. drive sensor or something), not ambient temperature as stated in the drive specifications.

Thanks for your input!! I'm really curious. Oh, and do newer eMacs have a temp sensor for the cpu as well?

By the way: Instructions for eMac upgrading:

Plus, since I couldn't get my hands on the Zalman Fan mate, I built my own voltage regulator following instructions on this page: http://www.cpemma.co.uk/reg.html
