I'm running 10.4.5 on a 20" Intel iMac. I recently started using the wireless network for the first time. My accesspoint is a Linksys WRT54GS with a third-party firmware. I am running WPA encryption with SSID broadcast turned off.

It seems that when I connect to the network, I get the black icon with the bars showing the signal strength. After an hour or so, the icon goes gray like I am not connected to a network and if I click the menu, it shows that I am not connected. (Or at least it doesn't list the name of my network with a check mark next to it.)

BUT, I can still surf the Internet and access the other "Internal" parts of my network. (This is how I know that I'm not on my neighbor's network...).

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Anyone know of a way to fix it? (It's hard to tell if I'm actually on a network or not...)

Thanks!

-Todd

I have the same router WRTS54GS V4 with thibor v14 firmware and an iMAC 20" G5 connected with airport.

I had similars troubles. I just changed wirless chanel from 11 to 5 in the router's configuration page and now connexion speed and reliability has been seriously improved.
