Computer: Mac mini 1.66 Intel Core Duo
HDTV: Sony KDF-50WE655
Cable: DVI to HDMI adapter
Software: SwitchResX 3.7.1 (Unviersal binary)

Problem: Absolutely no clue

The first problem I'm having is that I don't know exactly what the native resolution of my TV is. I have heard/read 1360x768, 1386x768, 1386x788, and so on.

Does any happen to have any experience getting this particular TV set up properly? By using 1280x720 and adjusting overscan settings on my TV I get a somewhat blurry picture with a black bar all the way around the screen. I would love to be able to get a pixel-for-pixel picture on this TV but just have absolutely no clue where to start.

It is 1386x788 according to the specs... what happens if you put than in SwitchResX?

Setting it to anything higher than 1280x720 causes a black screen... I am obviously missing something here. I wish this app had better documentation!

Perhaps the cable is at fault?

I've got the KDF-E42A10, and I know that it is not capable of pixel-for-pixel mapping. They're not exactly the same set, but that may hold true.

Did you have to go through any hoops to get SwitchResX to work on your Mini? It crashes out on mine when I try to launch the pref pane.

Have you tried a low refresh rate, say start at 50Hz and then work up?

I have the same Mini but no HDTV yet, I want to do what you are doing eventually so I'd be interested to see how this turns out. Keep us posted.

I know that often TV's don't accept the full resolution through their video inputs. The Sony SXRD for example boasts a 1920 * 1080 resolution but the TV will not accept that high a resolution through it's inputs, it merely upsamples the input.

I did get SwitchResX to run by setting the daemon and controller app (inside the pref pane package) to launch using Rosetta.

Now I'm having another problem. My TV will run 720i through my PowerBook just fine. My Mini refuses to believe that my TV will handle that resolution and doesn't give me the 1280x720 option. However, a custom setting in SwitchResX to do 1280x720 60Hz interlaced fails completely on my set. It either gives me it's standard "blue screen aint-no-signal-here" or blue screen with maybe an inch of garbled scan lines at the bottom of the screen.

The set in question is a Philips 30pw8402. Can anyone offer any tips and/or pointers?
