At long last, my “system” of maintaining User Names and Passwords needs revising. Bits of paper hither and yon no longer suffices; my system is almost out of control.
I suspect I need (want?) 448 bit encryption or better, but I am not certain of that.
What I am looking for is an application with (at least) the following fields:
* Name (of bank, application, etc.)
* User Name or ID
* Password
* Notes
Also, this application should sort the Names alphabetically and accommodate searching.
I no longer use OS 9; so Classic compatibility is not a requirement.
What shareware application do you recommend, features to avoid or embrace? Comments, suggestions, musings?

If you want a free, limited solution you can use the built-in Keychain Access. I use Web Confidential. There are a number of others. Go to version tracker and search for password manager.

Keychain Access does everything you're asking for.

Great suggestions. Much appreciated.
Now, to preview and decide.
Many thanks to all for the sound and most wise counsel!
