My iMac G4 700 is screwing up. I have the latest Tiger on it. Especially in Safari, when viewing eBay the screen will screw up with rainbow colored digital noise and then the machine becomes unresponsive. What is causing this?

The problem appears to be getting worse. Logic board, video? I only have the one stick of Apple RAM in there. Here is a screenshot:

I booted up in Safe Mode and for the past 30 minutes haven't had any problems. What might this point to?

A lot of things are possible, but I'd look for a bad driver first. There is a terminal command called "kextstat" that will show you which kexts (kenrel extensions) are loaded. Run it once in safe mode and once out of it and see if there are any differences. Look for any graphics driver that are loaded in mode and not the other- it might be corrupted.

Also try deleting the kext cache.

I erased the HD with the 35 times random write, then installed Tiger fresh, same problem. So, it seems certain to be a hardware problem, probably logic board.
