My iMac G4 700 appears to have a bad logic board. Does anyone know what exactly fails on the board and how to replace the parts. I have access to a good tech who can solder well.

Your only solution is to get it replaced.

The cost of trying to find out exactly what failed, then getting the soldered part of the board w/o damaging the other components and replacing it far outweigh the cost of just replacing the whole motherboard.

Check out eBay, or call Apple for a price

The motherboard is about $500. At that cost the machine is not worth fixing. I would expect that the same component usually fails, just hoping somebody had narrowed it down. I've seen hundreds of posts with the same problem.
