Hey all,

I've been doing more and more video and motion graphics work as of late, and a client has asked me to put together a DVD for his movie.

After creating menus and organizing all the assets, I compiled the DVD files on my HD. Right now it's at about 6.12GB and I think it will be a little higher when I'm done with the final.

Since it's over 5GB, am I right to assume I'll have to burn to a dual layer DVD? I'm on a G5 but my sys profiler doesn't list DL as one of the options.

I'd rather not add more items to my desktop as I already have my scanner, speakers, an external HD, and my USB hub kicking around.

I saw this model recommended in another thread and was wondering if I can just swap out my current drive for it. I've never tampered with the CD drive before so I thought I would ask before delving in to new territory.

Any caveats?

Should I be looking out for any particular type of DL DVDs?

The client will need to do a small run of this piece for press (about 300). Will duplicating the dual layer DVD that I hand off be pretty straight forward for them?

Thanks for your help as always.

Well you do need a dual layer burner that is for sure.

It is probably better to add an external one as that way you can copy straight from one DVD to the other. You can also have a drive available while you are burning another disk.

No need to throw out a perfectly good single layer burner.

That's a good suggestion, Dark! I hadn't considered copying from disk to disk but I'm sure the need could arise easily. The spare drive during burning would be good too.

I guess I'll have to order an enclosure after all.
