I don't know. Baiting the Apple faithful is a tried and true way of driving traffic to a web site. Apple faithful are very easy to bait and Dvorak has it down to an art. He has it to the point where all he needs to do is open his mouth and the faithful will flock to his site in droves ...

Thanks.

What an ASS CLOWN.

Any credibility that he had is just shot. Gone. Zip.

What a loser. He can't get enough valid material to write about so he manipulates people to drive people to his "articles?" Like I said, he's a loser. He and Ann Coulter should team up.

Heh. Amazing that this is even any kind of revelation to anyone.

The funniest part is -even after seeing what people have been telling them about Dvorak for years come right out of his own mouth- there are plenty of "Mac faithful" that will STILL jump every time Dvorak baits them, and will post links to every Mac-bait article the man writes and increase his hit count for him... YET AGAIN!

Yeah, the video of him admitting to baiting Mac users, and whipping them into a frenzy is... bating Mac users and whipping them into a frenzy. Ironic.

We've known for a long time that this guy is a clown. Now we know he's a mal-intentioned jackass as well. Seriously, let's just ignore this guy and not give him what he wants. I think it's sad that a writer would stoop down and sacrifice his credibility for more "hits" and (negative) feedback on his articles.

I still remember when he bashed on the original iBook and called it a woman's "compact", among many other insults. He doesn't even deserve to be called a journalist considering the dribble he writes.

Sorry -- that's kinda sad. I collect vintage typewriters, so I've read a bit about different layouts. Querty was devised mainly to keep the keys from jamming by having comonly used letters strike from different sides of the mechanism, without much regard to ergonomics. Dvorak keyboard have been around since the 30's apparently, though I rarely see one.

And John Dvorak is still an ass, although I casually wonder if he's any relation to August, as it's not a very common name.

I'm amazed this made Slashdot.

It's sort of like the pope admitting he's been to communion.

And Antonín?

(Dvořák happens to be one of my favourite names, by the way, if not exactly favourite people; not the John variant, anyway)

Back in school, I wrote an ergonomics paper on the keyboard and it's different variations (including Dvorak). Totally fascinated by the fact that the querty layout was designed to be INefficient.

Well, yes. He's an unprofessional hack who lets his personal vendetta against the Mac community creep into what's supposed to be journalism. Yes, he does have a personal vendetta; this all started when Macworld fired him many years ago. He's openly admitted this before, though the articles seem to have disappeared from any archives I can find.

What bothers me is that he's still seen as having credibility. His journalism is about as irresponsible as you can get, given his chosen field. Why does this man still have a job?

I'd imagine you speak at least 13 languages where not every Q is followed by a U. It gets to be pretty ingrained behavior to just type 'QU' like they were one letter for us English speakers. Now, if only they were next to each other on the keyboard...

Interesting, since neither Webster's (m-w.com), the Word dictionary (Encarta), the American Heritage dictionary (dictionary.com), nor even my paper copy of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary (the the same dictionary on which the OS X dictionary is based) have that definition.

My hunch is that "dribble" in that sense is a rare corruption of "drivel". "Drivel" (as a verb) used to mean "dribble" (v), in fact! Clearly the words are related, and phonologically, "dribble" could easily have evolved from "drivel".

Regardless, the fact is that in contemporary usage, "drivel" means nonsense and "dribble" means dripping liquid.

Partially because he does deliver hits due to baiting Mac users- and he still will. Well, if the excrement that Dvorak usually spews when he speaks is more of a liquid consistency, then both would be appropriate...

I think it was more than obvious that he did that. Also people have been pointing that out for years. Strangely for some reason it doesn't quite click in though that linking to his latest story, emailing him or starting threads on the matter doesn't help things and just proves to him that his method works.

Heck even this video will get him even MORE press and the suckers went for it again.

I have read his crap in the past, didn't email him or tell anyone about it as who cares what some old guy with a talent for drawing attention thinks.

If on his next story he didn't get any emails or the story linked to on a hundred sites he would change his tactics quickly.

After watching that video I really am not surprised that some of the members here reacted to it in the way they did. Proof positive that Dvorak's formula works flawlessly.

Which will cause another hefty torrent of emails from Mac users, and hits to his site. It's a never-ending cycle, and the winners are the advertisers.
