mac won't shutdown or restart

when I try to shut down or restart I get a window message that one of the open processes has refused to shut down properly and to use command-q. The only thing open is the finder. macsbug shows norton filesaver as open but exiting to shell doesn't help. I have just upgraded to Virex 6 on a 6500/225 with 96m ram and run norton utilities and techtool. they are not finding any problems. I tried to run a test with conflict catcher but that froze the system on startup. Also, when I tried to print something, my chooser had lost its settings. Any ideas?

i think that open process is the Virex scheduler extension... there have been some reports that it is a crashy devil...
disable it and see!

I have a 8500/150MHz with 176Mb ram and Virex 6.0 installed. I have no such problems so far. Is this problem related to the particular hardware?

jrf42, short answer: nope.
the virex scheduler has been causing problems in general on many differnet Macs apparently...
as always, YOUR mileage may VARY.
search the 'other' usual sites for info:
